Imported French goods reach local store with new lines

Cadean and Alexia Godillott from France are known to local consumers of fine imported posts. Sardines and other goods packed by them are on sale at E. D. Ansley's store. The Grocer, E. D. Ansley, invites trade through their city representative and urges patrons to call for these brands.

Receiver appointed in Savannah and Western plan fight

Macon reports Judge Patten to hear the Central Trust Company bid to foreclose and place the Savannah and Western railroad under a separate independent receiver. The Savannah and Western forms a key arm of the Central system with 623 miles, including lines from Meldrim to Lyons and Americus to Birmingham, with ties to the Savannah and Okeechobee Canal. The move follows prior attempts by the Central Trust Company to gain control of Central properties via stock voting, defeated by Judge Speer.

Naked man roams Atlanta Third ward causing panic

March 29 Atlanta residents report a nude man roaming streets in the Third ward. He approached a Fall street residence, then exposed himself on park avenues and cemetery grounds, flashing a coat and derby later. Police Chief Connolly orders a manhunt.

Four Woodbridge brothers charged with riot in county court

Four negro brothers George John Major and Berry Woodbridge were arrested by Bailiff Glover and jailed on riot charges. John Ed Thoman had sought warrants claiming an assault on him on Sunday near his home. the defendants deny the charge and say two were at church in Smithville on that day. Judge Mathews will hear the case tomorrow morning with all facts to be aired. Damages suits filed against the city over Forsyth Street bridge construction.

Extra Session Possibility Hinted by President Cleveland

President Cleveland signaled a possible extra session of Congress, perhaps in September or October, if needed. A batch of consular appointments was not sent to the Senate today, though a prepared list will be forwarded for confirmation this week. Herman Stump of Maryland was nominated superintendent of immigration, replacing William S. Owen who resigned. Attorney General Olney appointed Frank S. White as special assistant district attorney for the northern district of Alabama in the government’s case against Todd and Parker for illicit distilling. Rumors of primaries for marshal, collector, and other posts in Georgia circulated, with Atlanta contenders wary of a postmaster primary. One candidate reportedly has a “pull” and opposes primaries.

Five Applicants Vying For County Post In Stewart Capital

In Stewart County capital Luuism on March 20, five hopefuls seek the Cleveland plum job led by incumbent Mrs. E C Lyon with rivals Mrs B M Godfrey Miss Lucretia Lowery Miss Annie Ard and J G Pinkston.
