Newport News Virginia March 34 The Kearsarge and the Kentucky twin battleships were launched before a large crowd Christine Bradley christened the Kentucky and Mrs Herbert Winslow christened the Kearsarge Governor Bradley of Kentucky spoke urging indemnity in blood if inquiry findings justify the demand. The ships, coast defense and potential seagoing units, cost 2 2600 000 each excluding armor and armament. They are designed for 16 knots with four 13 inch rifles and other armament.
In Moultrie Georgia March 24 a negro named Jim Allen allegedly entered the home of Professor R C Ingalls and attempted to assault Mrs Ingalls after which he fled. A crowd seized the man at Jwe jan’s plantation and dumped him in a creek despite sheriff Fisher’s plan to transport him to Bibb county jail Macon to prevent lynching.

George Murchison a Mobilé county negro who faced a life sentence for murder in the state penitentiary is pardoned by Governor Johnston. His act of rescuing a guard from several murderous convicts during a riot led to the clemency after 16 years of service and deteriorating health.
Senator John M. Thurston of Nebraska, back from Cuba after his wife’s death, calls for U S action to intervene in Cuban affairs. He argues that muskets should accompany food and condemns Spanish rule as tyrannical, urging immediate government intervention beyond the Maine issue. He cites photos of suffering, urges Britain to join, and frames intervention as a Christian duty and a defense of liberty.
Havana dispatch reports it will not begin using grenades to speed Maine wreck disintegration until Spanish divers finish their mock work for the Spanish court. Captain Sigshee yields to officials and delays the operation near the wreck site while authorities review permissions.
The report of the American court of inquiry is nearing completion. Captain Sigsbee agrees the officers should not press the matter until the Spanish inquiry is finished, avoiding premature use of evidence.
In Curisteto Maryland on March 24 report says two Spaniards with naval appearance and nautical skill guided up the Potomac from Smith's Point to Colonial Beach. They were linked to the United States coast and geodetic survey under Washington instructions. a West Indian waiter overheard part of their discussions as they stayed at Colonial Beach hotels. Captain George Bowman allegedly ferried them aboard the Caroline.
A March 24 semiofficial note says Captain General Blanco denied Captain Parker Blanos request to blow up the Maine wreck with dynamite. The cabinet appoints Foreign Affairs Minister Gullen to handle the situation and defend Spain's rights. Finance Minister Pujero vows resources for war expenses until new chambers convene. The note remains reserved regarding the Spanish commission report on the Maine loss.
March 24. Captain Charles B. Sigsbee and listed Maine officers are detached from the battleship at Havana and ordered to return home to await orders. Also to depart with Chief Engineer C Flowell and others. Commander Wainwright remains in Havana with the vessel. Four prisoners break jail in Colomevs Georgia during the week.
