Dr. Chas. K. Chapman, a life term convict, returns to Americus for the bedside vigil of his gravely ill daughter Miss Lollia Chapman. He describes his roles at Milledgeville prison farm as gatekeeper, dentist, physician, and handy man, and says he will press for freedom but senses opposition and enduring mistrust among locals.
A bricklayer in King's Lynn England told the local board of guardians that he is the father of 36 children. He said he married at 17 and had 26 children by his first wife and 11 by his second.
Liverpool March 14 market opened steady with a 4 to 7 down. Pullys priced at 10.86 while sales reached 7,000 bales. Receipts totaled 16,022 bales, including 9,708 American. Futures showed April 10.25, June 10.10, September 9.728, with first prices around 10.27, 10.13, and 9.73.
The fifth curb market opens at the courthouse at 8 30 Wednesday morning and runs until 8 30. Housewives especially those pledged to attend are urged to be present. Last Saturday’s market was highly satisfactory with farmers bringing better conditioned produce and selling out, while late buyers sometimes found fewer goods. The market is becoming an institution as regular supplies of farm products are secured and housewives are urged to visit regularly.
R P Snow division chairman calls all grocers and market men in the Golden Rule sale to a planning meeting at the Times Recorder office Wednesday at 5 30 for arranging special bargain offers for the April 4 sale. Merchants not yet taking part are invited to join future sales.
Wahlington March 14 The Census Bureau announced that February cotton consumption reached 473,078 bales of lint and 38,509 bales of linters, up from 395,115 lint and 37,565 linters in February last year.
Albany March 14 Flint river rose to 26.7 feet this Monday the highest in almost four years. Officials expect a small fall Tuesday followed by another rise Tuesday night or Wednesday possibly near 30 feet by Friday morning. Lowland crops and lands are flooded and the power company plant above the city is unusable forcing reliance on steam power.
Cordele March 14 Churchwell Brothers plan to move their wholesale house headquarters to Jacksonville in late summer. They will sell their Cordele homes to S L Ryals and W H Westbrook and reside in Jacksonville in the future. The retail store here will stay but be enlarged with a fuller and more costly stock due to the wholesale house being relocated farther away.

In Atlanta Fulton County, a jury awarded 14-year-old Clif Walraven $100,000 against the Georgia Railway and Power Company for loss of both arms after being struck by a street car on January 18, 1921. The boy testified he crossed South Pryor Street near his home, alleging no warning was sounded. The company contended he fell, with arms outstretched over a rail.

Cordele March 14 The Episcopal church here has called Rev E H Chesley of Maryland to be vicar of the local charge He will devote Sunday mornings to Cordele Sunday nights to Tifton and mid week services to Vienna The church has been supplied for months by Rev John Moore Walker of Albany former pastor Rev W B Sams resigned to accept a call in South Carolina The new vicar will arrive soon and assume duties.

Wilburton Okla March 14 Nine persons died and twenty five were seriously hurt when a tornado struck Gowen a village fifteen miles west of here Relief work was aided by Dr W W Sames who reported most victims were Mexican citizens as per morning advices
Sunrise, a settlement in West Baton Rouge parish, was practically obliterated this morning by a tornado. Two persons were killed, sixteen injured and a number of dwellings demolished according to reports reaching here.
A March 14 tornado cut a twenty mile path through Jefferson and Lonoke counties, destroying farm buildings and injuring whites while killing six Black residents.
Judge Harper accepted pleas of guilty in City Court for gaming. Defendants Joe Hart Eugene Davis Rich Barnes and Sam Daniel paid 55.15 to settle their cases, with Daniel fined 7% for carrying a concealed weapon. The cases stem from a Sunday crap game near Spring Street and the Central of Georgia right of way weeks ago. M K S Koppel also settled a similar cargo on costs.
Major Lee H. Court testified he killed A. B. McNiece after McNiece wrecked his home and violated promises to stay away. McNiece’s deathbed statement said Court shot him without cause. McNiece’s widow described past attacks by Court and her fear of retaliation. Court, a former army officer, had worked as a Sumter Farm Bureau agent.
Thomasville March 14 The syrup growers of Thomas county have organized to put out a standard syrup on a co operative basis next year A refining plant is planned in Thomas or Grady county with a marketing system to provide producers a fair cash return and a profit dividend after selling the syrup Grady county has enrolled ninety percent of its growers and Thomas county is expected to follow this strong community effort
