Survived by widow two daughters Edith and Mrs Feagle parents Mr and Mrs J M Shy of Americus two brothers J T Shy of St Augustine Florida and Carlton Shy of Macon and three sisters plus many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers listed as S R Heys John Wagnon John W Shiver Neon Buchanan Walter Rylander and J W Chambliss. Shy was a prominent local businessman and Lee Street Methodist member affiliated with Americus Camp W O W B P C E 752 and Cooper Lodge Odd Fellows.

Americus residents report W E Taylor receives advancement within the J C Penny Company. formerly of Americus he has led the Huntingon Indiana store and was transferred to Shelbyville Indiana for a larger role. Mrs Taylor formerly Miss Mitch Payne will relocate with him to Shelbyville.
Castlegate March 11 The Utah Fuel Co mine explosion and fire has left no survivors. By today 28 bodies were removed from Mine No 2 and 98 more are believed to remain inside as rescuers work to clear passages and ventilate the mine. Sixteen bodies were recovered overnight.
Five inmates overpowered a guard, locked the keeper in a solitary cell and tied another in the stables, scaling the walls to flee Joliet penitentiary. Three were recaptured later, but one life-term prisoner, under three murder charges, remained at large.
