Heavy rain Monday and washed out bridges reduced hog numbers, yet a Preston man carried hogs across a washed creek to reach the sale. An unknown buyer bought a carload of hogs quietly, paying over eight cents per pound, slightly more than a quarter cent less than Wednesday's top. The day marked Richland's biggest Golden Rule sale end with bustling stores and circuslike crowds.

Newton Glover 82 longtime Americus resident died Thursday after a three week illness at his home 321 Barlow Street. Funeral services were held at 3 30 this afternoon from the family residence with Rev Guyton Fisher and Dr Carl W Minor officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery beside his wife. He lived in Americus 20 years and was a Confederate veteran respected in the community through church and business ties. He was born in Wilkerson county and married Amanda Peacock of Ellaville.
