Officers law convicted two deputy sheriffs manslaughter
In Meuritis on March 9 the jury found Deputy Sheriffs W. C. Johnson and E. T. Stewart guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Henry White during an arrest on January 6. Each was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary. White, a Black man employed by Patterson Transfer, was killed during a struggle when officers failed to read the warrant.
