Elegant Opera House Project Promises in Americus

In Americus the riding will be on Cotton Avenue costing about 835000 and the project to build a three story opera house and Masonic hall promoted by the local Masons aims for completion by late August. The structure will include shops on the first floor with an opulent rear opera house and a front Masonic lodge room on the third floor. Plans are to be drawn this week and the site lies between Johnson Harrold and the Hamil block. The new venue will be one of the handsomest in Georgia with two galleries and ample seating. Meanwhile fundraisers by the Americus Phishiraonté Ch are planned for around the 22d to aid the Americus Light Infantry in purchasing fatigue uniforms for the encampment.

Augusta and Savannah Railroad Directors Meet on Receiver Issue

A special meeting of Augusta and Savannah railroad directors was held at Hull & Lathrop to protect stockholders if a permanent receiver is appointed. Frank H. A telegram to Judge Ansley confirms Senator Hill will not pass Americus on his route to Savannah via Atlanta and Birmingham. The city and Sumter counts had hoped for a Southwest Georgia welcome as Hill campaign in the south grows with broad support despite opposition in Cleveland papers.

State Sunday School Convention Plans in Marietta

The executive committee of the State Sunday School Association met in Americas yesterday to arrange the program for the next convention in Marietta on May 18 for three days. Some members returned home last night others depart in the morning.

County Commissioners appoint board of equalization in county

The county commissioners at their regular meeting appointed the board of equalization: John A Cobb C B Horne J L Page Dr George A Harper and B W Small.
