Baton Rouge La March 8 Preparations for the annual reunion of Confederate Veterans in New Orleans in April spur recollections of General William Tecumseh Sherman. Sherman headed the march to the sea and once led the old Louisiana State Seminary in Alexandria later becoming LSU. The painting in Garry Hall was by Colonel Samuel B Lockett, a West Point graduate and Confederate veteran who helped fortify Vicksburg. The Seminary burned in 1869, and the portrait survived by cadets.

Two Stillts Seized By Prohibition Agents In Coffee County

Prohibition Agents J A Moore Jim Land with Sheriff Wiggin captured two stills in Coffee county on Tuesday. One site at the old Bud Tanner place operated by Dave Wright Zissie Rollins and Charley Hagan yielded a still buck and three gallons of shine and led to arrests. A second still near Fales on Brad Adams' place was destroyed with beer found but no arrests.

Tractors Said to Have Crushed Bodies in Bastrop Case

Bastrop La March 8 authorities and pathologists report on the mutilated bodies of Watt Daniel and T F Richard found at Lake LaFourche last December. Some observers who know tractors say a torture device could be a road or farm tractor. Anonymous letters from plantation owners suggest a tractor was used, and experiments show a tractor of a certain type could crush a body in the same manner.

Two Divorce Suits Filed in Macon Courts

In Macon on March 8, Verna Louise Johnson McGinnis filed for divorce from T. H. McGinnis citing his illness and marriage in 1922. The suit seeks dissolution at the July term. Harrison Johnson filed for divorce from Caroline Woollen Johnson, requesting custody of two children now with their mother in Los Angeles. The couple wed in 1907 and she deserted him in 1919.

Hall ripens seed profits from 6000 collards in Bainbridge

H R Hall, earning about $60 a month from 6000 collard plants started last September, now plants seeds for early summer vegetables. He uses vacant lots as garden space, letting the produce offset rent. This keeps lots vacant and saves owners around $12 yearly in upkeep if city rules are met.

Haston Family Shot Near Spencer. Woman Dies Early

In Tennessee, Sam Haston, brother of the state secretary, his mother, sister, a boy named Tullus Trogden, and an unnamed man were shot at the Haston home three miles from Spencer by Lewis Douglas, a paroled convict. Mrs Haston, seriously ill, died at about nine this morning as the gunfire occurred. the motive remains unknown.
