Courthouse sale shows estate of Scarborough sold at low bids

Real estate and personal property belonging to the estate of W. H. Scarborough, murdered recluse, were sold at the courthouse amid overall low bids. Morgan Stevens Jr. bought the top property, including the Scarborough farm for 3505 and several other parcels, with judge confirmation pending.

Harding sees no cause to delay strike settlement

Washington March 6 President Harding informed officials that he sees no adequate principle warranting further delay in settling last summer's shopmen's strike in all districts. He said a minority of interests refusing to settle were largely responsible for disrupted coal deliveries and other railway problems.

Grand Master Halts Members Of Lodge In Atlanta

March 6 in conformity with Freemasonry tenets Grand Master Joe P Bowdoin of Georgia arrested the charter of Lebanon lodge No 655 Atlanta and suspended all officers and members pending final action at the grand lodge in Macon October 30 The arrest halts lodge operations and bars members from visiting other Masonic bodies while books funds and paraphernalia are held by the grand lodge Acting Grand Marshal Sam Johnson executed the order before a proposed pardon hearing for ex-Atlanta detective W L Payne later postponed by the state prison commission Payne had been tried for conduct unbecoming a Mason and exonerated by Lebanon lodge No 653 members had sought a pardon.

Hoover Confers on Radio Conference Plan

Secretary Hoover announced a radio conference to be held within the next month or two to address congestion and interference among broadcasting and amateur stations. He noted about 540 stations are active, using two wavelengths, and the conflict has proven difficult to prevent.

Washington March 6 Georgia headed the nation in fertilizer manufacturing in 1921 with 138 establishments, per census data. Total products value reached 180 million, a drop from 1919 but up from 1914. Georgia State Exposition to Open October in Macon

Macon announces the Georgia State Exposition will run ten days from Wednesday October 17 to Saturday October 27 under a new organization. Officers and stockholders set dates and plan a calendar featuring horse races and boxing bouts with several top horses and fighters. Hays Carved Whee Surrendered Today

John Henry Hays a negro living near Americus surrendered to Sheriff Harvey after three days on a charge of assault with intent to murder. He bonded after surrendering. He and Belle Hays, living apart, quarrelled over money used to buy shoes. He stabbed her with a pocket knife. her injuries are serious but not fatal and she is expected to recover. R. Lane served as special prosecuting attorney.

Automobiles must park within painted strips near First Baptist during church service hours. The area, marked on pavement, follows an ordinance urged by First Baptist and First Methodist congregations months ago. Dr J I Darby of Americus died in Panama City Florida after a month long illness at age 60. A leading Columbus physician and Mason he served as surgeon for Seaboard Air Line Railroad and Eagle and Phenix mills. Survived by widow and daughter Mrs Macon Dudley, funeral held in Déthan Alabama with interment there.

President Special Train in Florida Heads to Ormond

The presidential special carrying President Harding and Mrs. Harding stopped in St. Augustine at 10 am to leave Secretary Weeks in the city and allow Charles Dawes to board. Mrs. Harding appeared on the rear platform greeted by Chauncey Depew. Weeks will remain until the party returns around March 18 or 20. In Ormond Beach the party arrived at noon and boarded a McLean houseboat for a vacation, met by Edward McLean of Washington.
