Funeral of Thomas Reed Atlanta Pioneer Oldest Citizen

Thomas Reed of 67 Tyler street was laid to rest at Oakland cemetery after services in Laxta. A longtime Atlanta resident since 1847 he drove a tobacco wagon from North Carolina and later worked at Winship machine works for over forty years. He helped build the state’s first cotton press and aided in the Confederate navy yard project near Norfolk, contributing to the Merrimac ironclad. A veteran of Mechanics No. 2, he spent his last years paralyzed at home.
