Chatham Democrats to Vote on Fee System

The Chatham Democratic executive committee will meet today to consider a referendum on the fee system for paying county officers and a petition to change how members of the board of education are elected. The county primary is expected March 19, possibly moved earlier to avoid conflicts with state and local contests.

D R James alias James A Delaney, ex convict, 65, freed in Richmond Va on a $700 false pretenses charge against W H Miles Shoe Co, held for Dry Branch Ga to answer bigamy after marrying Alma Tharp of Macon Oct 17 1923 while his Tyler Tex wife and two children remained. He was arrested at a Macon hotel while honeymooning, traced by the shoe firm over travels for other firms violating his contract.

Oklahoma Committee Session Turns Violent in City Meeting

Oklahoma City March 1 Police used officers to restore order at the Democratic state central committee gathering. An uproar over credentials committee naming led to confrontations as Ed M. Semans chairman faced interruption from John Logan Tulsa county chair. Logan resisted, Semans stood by appointments, and officers separated the combatants amid jeers.

Train derailment injures several near Meigs Georgia

In Pelham Georgia on March 1 three or four passengers were slightly hurt and several others shaken when the rear day coach and pullman of the Atlantic Coast Line train from Thomasville to Albany derailed about a mile south of Meigs. A broken rail was said to have caused the trouble. The engine mail car and first passenger car passed over the defect without incident.

Collision kills Gorman student in Atlanta return from dance

Four young men, returning from a dance, were in a street intersection collision. Walter Gorman of San Antonio, a student at Atlanta Dental College, died. Frank Matthews of Atlanta was seriously injured. Two others were slightly hurt.

Division W. MU to Meet in Moultrie

The Woman's Baptist Missionary Union of the southwestern division will meet in Moultrie March 25 and 26 for a two day session and report of work accomplished in the various branches of missionary work. Mrs Charles F Cater of Quitman vice president of this division will be among the notable officers attending and the delegation is expected to be large. It is anticipated that every church within Friendship Baptist association will be represented by delegates and Mrs Lott and Mrs Maynard will be on the program. An unusual feature will be Miss Katherine Brown a returned missionary from China who will describe foreign missions and illustrate with clothing and emblems.

In Savannah on March 1 little Margaret Hood, daughter of Mr and Mrs H L Hood of Avondale, was seriously burned when her dress caught fire from an open grate. Attending physicians described her condition as extremely critical.

Forbes Greets Indictments as Conspiracy Against Honor

Former Veterans Bureau chief Charles R Forbes welcomed yesterday’s Chicago indictments. He said he faces the charges with a clear conscience and will present his case before a fair court and jury. He denounced the case as a hell engendered conspiracy against his honor and said he will not flee to Florida.

Charles Jenkins Shot and Killed by Phillips in Georgia

In Soperton Georgia on a Sunday shooting occurred ten miles from town over a misunderstanding involving a woman. Charles Jenkins was killed while seated in his car and Lewis Phillips is jailed in Treutlin County. Horace Jenkins, the deceased’s brother, says the shooting followed an attempt at explanation. Both men were prominent in the county.
