Affidavit alleges Rountree sought receiver for Central Railroad

Georgia affidavit by Willis F Westmoreland asserts Dan W Rountree sought to file a bill to place the Central Railroad and Banking Co in receivership after Savannah court hints. He swore the solicitor discussed seeking a stockholder outside Georgia and agreed to pay Rowena Clarke’s costs in exchange for her authorization to use her name. Justice Jackson rules tripartite bonds secure the whole Central leasehold, overruling defense that 1872 act voided the mortgage. Sale ordered to satisfy two thirds of the debt. Southwestern may pay one third or face full liability. Central line from Savannah to Atlanta to be sold to cover remaining two thirds. taxes and floating debt noted.

Strike at Manchester mill prompts mass walkout in Macon

Macon Ga June 28 Special. A strike disrupted Manchester mill as 150 operatives left their machines after midnight, stopping gear until 8 am. The day crew were urged to report to work, with night workers free to join later. The strike follows a planned ten percent wage cut on July 1, with many workers saying the cuts threaten their livelihoods. The mill employs about 300 operators.
