A fierce dawn battle rages in Dublin between regular Irish Republican Army troops and irregulars led by Rory O Connor for control of the Four Courts. Armored cars trench mortars and machine guns are in use. Casualties are expected to be high.
Dublin reports indicate after hours of fighting many insurgent Irish troops under Kery O Connor are retreating while Fowler Hall garrison capitulated to provisional government forces. Irish regulars under Michael Cellins appear strong enough to quell the crisis with British supplied arms. It is implied that if Collins requests aid, several thousand British troops could be available in Dublin.
In Atlanta on June 28 fifteen police and detectives surrounded five houses near Lyons and Hilliard streets and captured Fred Hollis known as The Black Houdini. He escaped double shackles on the Jasper county chain gang days earlier and arrived with a threat to kill detectives Surdivant and Campbell who first arrested him. He has a long police record and is skilled at escaping handcuffs and shackles. He admitted escaping but denied threatening the detectives.
Lynchburg Va June 28 United States deputy marshal E L Chappelle killed himself this morning by shooting himself in the head with a shotgun.
Cotton market report from Am ericus shows strict middling at 21c with declines. June 28 market open down 5 to 9 points, with fullys at 13.24 and 10 000 bales sold. Receipts total 10 370 bales, including 2 036 American. Futures quotes for September and December listed with minor shifts and scattered letters and symbols.
Philadelphia and other cities report car sales with buyers and sellers named. Prices vary by city and seller, including Hiley and Carmen. Out-of-state sales total 247 cars.
Mexican officials view the kidnapping of A. Bruce Bielaski in Morelos and the capture of forty Americans near Tampico as isolated banditry. Federal troops are directing pursuit while Bielaski remains in bandits' hands.
Leslie defeats Bronwood 10 to 2 after trailing 2 to 0 in the sixth. Walter Johnson allowed six hits for Leslie while Kennedy started strong for Bronwood before giving way to Waller. Bass fielded well for Leslie with 2d pegs and no steals, and Loomis Deagours and Edwin Hines contributed strong defense. The score by innings shows a late Leslie breakout and a bullpen hold.
Atlanta June 28 E H McMichael Marion county representative will press a vigorous fight on the Georgia highway commission this session He will introduce a special resolution asking the house to decide which committee report should be adopted The Marion official attacks the stone quarry purchase at Elberton as extravagance and says the stone is unfitted for road work and is being disposed of.
Washington June 28 Congress appropriated 7 500 000 for Wilson dam work and Muscle Shoals development. Representative Almon of Alabama stated the action makes completion of the project certain, underscoring progress toward finishing the Shoals program.
Cordele plans a Fourth of July celebration with boxing at the armory. The program features at least one 50s bout with Cordele boxers facing outsiders, including a main event pitting Billy McGowan of Macon against Detroit’s Young Paskey, plus three preliminaries.
Taking testimony began this morning in Greenwood South Carolina in the Watts Cotton Mills case. The suit involves about 500000 dollars and names a number of stockholders against the corporation.
In Wilkes Barre Pa optimism spreads through hard coal regions after news that President Harding and UMWA president John L Lewis reached a agreement ending plans for a general strike. Miners expect to return to work by mid July following adjournment of the anthracite scale committee.
The Americas Golf club schedules its initial member match for Thursday with men and women in separate divisions. Forty players are expected as handicaps are used for scoring and prizes of golf balls are awarded to top finishers. A goat contest and a goat stakes match begin soon, promising ongoing events through December and a July 4 tournament with a silver cup to follow later.

Berlin dated June 28 reports three killed and 25 wounded when police fired into a crowd during a demonstration linked to the Rathenau assassination. The incident occurred in Armstadt yesterday as tensions rose amid political unrest.
An unidentified ship was reported burning off Ventura California last night. The steamer Humboldt is reported to be steaming back and forth through thick fog aiding the search for the burning vessel.
The Sumter County Democratic Executive Committee met at the courthouse on Wednesday and set September 13 as the state primary date with August 25 as the candidate entry deadline. Entry fees increased for the county race with $40 for congressional candidates and $25 each for state senator and representative, due by midnight August 25. Also ordered are a precinct voter list for the election board and arrangements for a complete new county executive committee after the primary. Attending were J. A. Davenport, F. B. Arthur, J. C. Pace, J. C. Carter, J. T. Methvin, A. W. Buchanan, J. A. Fort, and S. A. Rodgers.
Hundreds attended the Lee Street Methodist service for Mrs. J. C. Beck who died after a long illness at her Jackson avenue home. Rev. L. A. Harrell led the rites as the G I A honored member attended in a body. pallbearers included C. A. Culpepper and Neon Buchanan. Floral tributes marked the esteem held for her in the community.
Mrs W H Phillips died at the Pennington sanitarium after an operation ten days earlier. Surviving are husband W H Phillips three daughters Virgil Polly Barnett and Hugh one son four sisters including Mrs Ernest Logan of Americus and Mrs W M Hines of Carrollton and others two brothers James S Bagwell of East Point. She was formerly Mollie Bagwell daughter of W M Bagwell of East Point and lived in McCollum Ga. Many friends mourn her passing.
A fine crowd of citizens attended a playground association swimming pool party Tuesday evening. Kiwanis Lions Rotary members, American Legion, and county and city officials with their ladies were present. After a pool plunge, sandwiches and punch were served by young ladies led by Mrs. S. H. McKee and Mrs. Frail Gite.
In June near Dover a Georgia preacher Elliott Padrick 20 killed his wife Willa 16 and her mother M G Dixon. He confessed saying he fought jealousy after Willa teased him about love. Padrick’s church unfrocked him. he awaits Swainsboro jail custody as prayers rise from fellow ministers. He faces murder charges in a case marked by tragedy and religious turmoil.
Atlanta June 28 An effort will be made early in the session to bring up the capitol removal question and submit to the people whether Macon or Atlanta should be the capital. There is little hope of passage as lawmakers say no need to stir up the public or deepen regional tensions. J V Dixon, a long time advocate for Macon, believes the debate has wasted time and should end.
In Atlanta on June 28 the County Sheriff's Association of Georgia began a two day session in Fulton county court house with about 100 county officers present. Governor Hardwick and Judge Thomas H. Jeffries spoke at a Lakewood Park barbecue attended by state legislators, followed by officer elections.
Two people may die and several others are injured when the Chicago Flyer on the Rock Island line jumped a ditch at Alvo Nebraska. The engineer and fireman were probably fatally injured in the derailment on June 28.
Atlanta June 28 The Georgia branch of the National Woman's Party plans to seek passage of an equal rights bill at the current session. The measure would remove discrimination against women and grant them equal rights in line with their new citizenship. Gracie Butler of Savannah chairs the state group and will be aided by Lavinia Egan of Shreveport Louisiana, a council member and national organizer.
Fulton county grand jury indicted two Atlanta policemen A. B. Noles and W. S. Morgan for murder in the May 7 riot in railroad yards. Albert Everett, a Negro employee of the Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic railroad, was shot and killed during the riot where he was said to be a strike breaker.
Senator Myer of Montana charged in the senate that Williamson county Illinois showed one hundred per cent disloyalty to the United States and the constitution for approving the Herrin miners massacre. The remark followed the Herrin event as part of a broader prodding on union violence.
Chicago June 28. Rail executives rejected peace overtures as shopmen threaten a July 11 strike. Leaders hailed an overwhelming vote to withdraw unless wages stay, rules restored, and outside work not farmed out. Telegram warned the strike could halt rail service nationwide.
