Electric road sale sparks move to Macon takeover

Americus street railway changed hands at a receiver sale with George W. Morse of Boston as bidder through Thomas J. Kenny. Morse signals sale to a local firm or else the line will be moved to Macon, while stressing the franchise remains valuable and the price was 835,000.

Mad dog terror in Cordele ends by killing attacker

In Cordele a dangerous dog rampaged through several houses, biting residents. J W Callahan knocked it from a house with a chair, then pursued it to Mitchell's where he killed the animal. The town reports strong mercantile activity and good crops, aided by the S A & M railroad.

Playing in Hard Luck Dr Blackwell In Americus

Dr W T Blackwell, an itinerant vender of medicines and various goods, faced rough treatment in Milledgeville after a public incident. Reports say he targets ignorant crowds with questionable claims and charges that his medicines lack promised life saving properties. Eggs onions and potatoes pelleted his stand on Greene and Wayne streets. Police protection was provided but the doctor left unsettled about continuing business.

Americus urged as headquarters for Southwestern offices

A Times-Recorner report urges Americus to land the Southwestern offices from Smithville. It notes local residents must work hard, argues Americus has the social standing, and cites interviews with Superintendent McKenzie and Train Master Kreas who hinted they would welcome Americus if a move occurs. Miss Minnie Hinton, an esteemed Jackson Street teacher, was omitted from re-election notices but later affirmed by the board.

Rail work advances on S A M road near Montgomery

The local paper reports rapid progress on the S A M railway with track layers near McLemore’s place eight miles from Montgomery. The construction crew has built two side trestles on Mardi Be Scott’s property and camps there, signaling a depot likely at that site for Mt Meigs residents. The Western railroad accommodations are poor and citizens await completion and a convenient schedule. Ten days hence the first locomotive on the new line will blow a long blast to inaugurate the road into the city, a milestone for Montgomery’s industry. Officials W N Marshall F S Goodman and W E Hawk Inn visited to coordinate with other roads. details remain under study. The graded line now reaches Clisby’s Park, about half a mile north, and work pushes toward rapid completion with trains planned for ten days from today.
