A two car Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit train bound for the center shopping district fell from an elevated structure at Fifth and Fairbush avenues in New York. Several persons are reported killed and others injured in the catastrophe.
Denver June 25. Two killed and two seriously injured when a automobile in the Harding special train caravan plunged 75 feet from a Bear Creek canyon cliff. Sumner Curtis, Republican national committee representative, and Tommie French of Denver died. Donald A. Craig and Thomas F. Dawson injured. Dawson later died.
Professor Scott Holland of the University of Georgia Romance Languages department, Forsyth resident, was robbed in New York of several hundred dollars and his steamship ticket to France, derailing his planned summer research trip.
Perry Nettles is dead and Will Wright is dying after a free for all fight at a Douglas POW camp yesterday. Both men reportedly had been drinking, authorities say. The incident occurred in Douglas on June 25 as details emerge from the scene.
William Brantley, bitten by a rattlesnake while fishing near Americus, was saved by first aid from two companions Ernest Shipp and Henry Elza who tied a tourniquet and rushed him to Dr Herschel Smith at the Shipp home. The orphans, educated at Thaleana academy, benefited from first aid instruction.
Mrs Annie Leona Ashley 58 died at her daughter's home in Americus after an 18 month illness. Funeral services were held in Poulan cemetery beside her husband. Dr Leroy Henderson and Albany church members attended. Survived by daughter Mrs Schneider of Americus, sisters Mrs Kimberley Ada Reynolds Mrs Moffett, brothers W T Stevens A L Stevens. She had lived in Americus briefly but was beloved among friends and attended Albany Baptist Church.

Large crowds attend Sunday services as Rev Dr R L Bolton of Madison Ga leads a revival at Central Baptist Church. Milo Massey praises Bolton's old time gospel approach while Kim Clark directs music with a senior and junior chorus. Services run daily with 10 am and 7 45 pm preaching and more members expected.
The Amer icas district Leslie charge held its third quarterly conference at Mt Zion Methodist Church near Leslie. Dr W C Lovette presided with Elder Dr A C Lovett in charge during the Saturday meeting.
Savannah June 25 petition signed by citizens endorsing Henry Ford for president, forwarded to Detroit. Ford's secretary replied there is no objection to their further activities in this direction.
Hightower Jackson sits in jail facing charges of illicit liquor production. His handmade lard-can still and recently produced whisky were found near his Old Sims place outside Leslie. Officers Sherry Cox and T. M. Etheridge seized 11 bottles and warm backs from the outfit, while Jackson admitted to years of illicit distilling after a prior fine.
Brunswick June 25 A key bill to be introduced in the approaching session by Representative Ellis of Tift county would shield the Georgia coast oyster industry. The measure, drafted with experts, seeks a comprehensive law long sought but neglected, harming the industry over years.
The local Order of Eastern Star chapter meets at Masonic Hall tonight at 8 o'clock. All members are urged to attend promptly.
London June 25. Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin told the Commons there is no basis for protest if United States customs seals are broken in US territorial waters by US Customs Service officials. He answered a question on whether Britain recognized the right to break seals on liquor aboard ships. New York June 25. Two more wet liners arrived as federal officials prepared to move on six others to docket over the weekend. Removal of liquor from the Cunard liner Berengaria planned.
Lake City Fla June 25 The fourth attempt to place Walter Higginbotham former convict whipping boss on trial was vigorously fought by the defense Higginbotham is charged with murder in the death of Martin Tabert North Dakota in a convict camp Judge McMullen overruled motions to disqualify the states attorney to quash the indictment and for a continuance of the case The court refused to permit arguments on motions.
Rev T D Herring of Parrott resigns after nearly three years as Leslie Baptist pastor to take effect August first. He accepted a call to the Weston church and will serve both Parrott and Weston. Friends here regret his departure as the church relocates its pastor.
Savannah dispatch reports Dr. A. S. Rochester, a specialist in Rochester, died after a minor safety pin prick used in his sleeve cuff. The incident occurred in Savannah and the exact cause of death is under investigation.
Washington June 25 The weather outlook for June 25 to June 30 indicates normal temperatures for the South Atlantic and East Gulf states with partly cloudy skies and local thunder showers expected at times throughout the period.
A large crowd from Sumter County attended a Sunday afternoon singing at the Americus courthouse. The Vaughan quartet led the program with W. N. Stephens performing solos. Community songs proved popular and a concert at the courthouse was announced for Tuesday night.
New York June 25 A Washington letter reveals the first president’s deep religious convictions and calls for organic union among Christian denominations. The letter responds to a congratulatory address sent to Washington after his 1789 presidency start, issued by the Episcopal General Convention in Philadelphia.
George Maxwell president of the Authors Publishers and Composers Associated of America was abroad when indicted and is charged with writing poison pen letters to Allen A Ryan. He will surrender soon, according to reports from the criminal courts building in New York.
A dispatch from Fargo notes five killed and four injured in a West End Adams county tornado. Property damage is estimated at more than 100000 dollars across a wide strip of territory.
G R Ellis returns from New York where bankers forecast a bright cotton year for the South with little carry over and a short crop due to boll weevil damage. They see no serious stock market fallout and expect Ellis to recover from recent illness. Mr and Mrs Ellis spent several days in the city and Colonel Ellis undergoes specialist examination, showing rapid health improvement.
In Quitman on June 25 thirty registered Poland China pigs and six registered Duroc Jersey pigs were placed by Decatur county agent Dr. D. E. Sawyer in pig clubs across county districts. Four registered calves were placed in calf clubs and more calves will be distributed as located. Chicken clubs have received eggs and all clubs are progressing well. Competitive contests have increased interest, with winners earning trips.
Boston Ga June 25. Boston ships unusually fine tomatoes from Alonzo and L T Miner. A Monday shipment totaled 17 crates rising to 20 crates by Wednesday. The pair experiment with painted tomato patches and report good results. Local markets and Thomasville also purchased large quantities with unusually attractive prices.
Leslie June 25 revival services at the Leslie Methodist church will extend for several days into next week. Rev. EB Alley of Vidalia is conducting the services with [illegible text] assistant and program announced.
President Harding warned that failure of states to enforce the Volstead act could push enforcement to the federal level. He argued the eighteenth amendment is the basic law, warned against a federal police authority intrusion, and urged steadfast nationwide enforcement with state cooperation. He noted only a small minority believes repeal will occur and urged readiness to adjust enforcement as needed.
