William Rockefeller, oil magnate and brother of John D. Rockefeller, died in Tarrytown, N Y, just before 7 o clock from pneumonia after a brief illness. The Rockefeller family was largely gathered at his bedside.
Chicago June 24 Mrs Edith Jarvis Alden assistant secretary of the Chicago Burlington and Quincy railroad argues against large numbers of women entering business for spending money rather than self support She says some experience helps women understand husbands and earnings power and asserts efficiency and hard work open business to women
Detroit June 23 At least four Michigan women plan to run for state offices. Eva Hamilton of Grand Rapids Republican seeks renomination as state senator. Cora Mae Fleming of Kalamazoo Republican aims for the house. Etta C. Smith of Grand Rapids Democrat aspires to the senate. Clara Knee of Grand Rapids Democrat seeks a house seat. Some predict 12 to 25 total entrants in coming weeks.
Lakewood Park officials forecast one of the greatest Independence Day events with Governor Hardwick among morning speakers. Afternoon features include horse racing and a major automobile race meet on the Lakewood oval. A monster fireworks display is planned for the Fourth night with midway attractions open all day and new features debuting this year.
London June 24 The Marquis of Huntly aged 75 plans to marry an American widow drawing intense publicity. The septagenarian peer, described as handsome and courtly, already celebrated a golden wedding in 1919 after his first wife died a few months later, leaving no children from that marriage.
Maj Samuel J Rosensohn argues for fair wages based on annual earnings rather than hourly or weekly rates. He cites Cleveland garment industry plans with unemployment funds and sliding wage scales to reduce seasonal unemployment and stabilize earnings in coal mining. He notes employers bear responsibility to provide continuous work and workers prefer 41 weeks of actual employment to secure better unemployment support.
Cincinnati June 24 The American Federation of Labor again rejects recognizing the Soviet Russian government for the third year in a row.
Florrie Warren ten year old daughter of Mr and Mrs J T Warren was hit in the leg by a stray shot from a parlor rifle while en route to the Playground for a dip. The flesh wound will not hinder her activities. Playground president J Ralston Cargill noted the incident did not occur on Playground grounds and urged police action to curb rifle use within city limits.
Governor Hardwick has drafted his annual message to the Georgia legislature and it is at the printer. The first message will be read Thursday June 29 at noon. The tax question and state finances receive emphasis with notes on timely debt payments and strict economy.
Albany June 24. Lady Riley a white man sentenced to hang for a criminal assault on an 11 year old girl escaped death after a gubernatorial respite. The state commission recommended reducing the sentence to life imprisonment.
Judge Munro in the Superior Court denied Major Lee H Court a new trial for the murder of A B McNiece, superintendent of schools. The defense immediately gave notice of appeal.
Tokyo reports that Japan will evacuate Siberia by October 30. The decision received approval from the privy council and is awaiting ratification by Prince Regent.
Atlanta report shows 40 cars sold with Carmen and Hiley price ranges. Philadelphia 13 cars with Carmen and Hiley. Pittsburg 6 cars with Carmen and Hiley. Boston 3 cars with Carmen and Riley. The Junior and Senior B Y P U groups meet Thursday June 29 at Pleasant Grove Baptist church for a full day of business and reports. A noon meal will be served on the grounds with attendees from both churches plus friends. Speakers include Rev Wallace Ware of Vienna and Rev Tippett of Vienna Baptist church.
Adams Smith & Co a Tifton firm has admitted bankruptcy after an involuntary petition by several wholesale firms. The filing cites liabilities of sixteen thousand eight hundred ninety dollars and assets of fifteen thousand two hundred.
More than 500 people attended the playground pool on Friday. Management reported brisk bond sales for season tickets and extra bonds for late buyers. The pool, open to all ages, charged 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children, with new features and lights enhancing the site. Water is refreshed continuously and the pool closes at 10 pm for weekly cleansing before reopening Monday at 5:30.
A plan to bring a carload of high grade Jersey cows from Ohio to Tift County farms moves forward led by the Tifton Board of Trade with support from the Southern Railway livestock agent and Prof. S. L. Lewis of the Second District A. & M. school. If farmers show interest, the cattle could arrive next month and join one of the South’s finest small Jersey herds already at the Second District school.
Tifton report notes A. C. Tift exhibited the season’s first cured tobacco for Tift county, curing primings in a barn. About a dozen barns are in progress, with an anticipated smaller yield but better quality and higher prices seen as likely this year.
Brookfield in Tift county announces a traders convention to be held on the first Saturday of each month. Residents are invited to bring any items they wish to swap trade or exchange and make a trade at Brookfield on the designated day.
Albany June 24 Bob Luton Buddie Calloway Cutcliff and other drivers who raced at Macon this week have been engaged to drive in the Albany South fair auto races from October 30 to woven.

Herrin June 24 The state military investigation into the Lester mine massacre begun today by a board led by Maj General Milton Foreman under order of Governor Small. The inquiry seeks to determine why local officials failed to act as complaints rise. Public reaction on the streets shows resentment over the military dispatch.
More than 150 miners from the Herrin district passed through Carbondale early today heading out of the coal fields. Believed to be union men, they gave no reasons for the departure and could not provide names of the travelers.
Chicago June 24. Counsel for the Southern Illinois Coal Company reports its mine burned Thursday and non union miners slain at Herrin. They telegraphed Adjutant General Black requesting troops be sent to Williamson county, accusing the sheriff of failing to perform his duty.
W. L. Dupree secretary of the steering committee of Americus three civic clubs calls the body to meet Tuesday at 10 in Bradley Hogg offices at the Bell Building. The committee consists of three Rotarians three Kiwanians and three Lions and is a key part of the federated effort for Americus progress.
Pleas ant Grove church at Huntington calls members and friends to meet Tuesday, June 27, for church yard and nearby cemetery cleanup led by B A Bradley. The effort aims to keep the grounds orderly to impress passers-by and reflect the church’s pleasant grove setting. Judge Z A Littlejohn has returned from a two week vacation in Nacoochee Valley. Miss Cornelia Wallis and Miss Terese Andrews visited Atlanta guests of Mrs J H Spiller on Ponce De Leon avenue. Mrs Spiller formerly Miss Foy Mott of Americus.

Berlin reports Dr. Walter Rathenau shot to death as he left his Grunewald home en route to the foreign office. An assassin in a motor car fired twice and fled. grenades wounded him. The government moved to establish extraordinary courts to try national plotters.
Rev Marvin Pharr assistant pastor of the First Baptist church at Macon and a Mercer University student will conduct both morning and evening services at the First Baptist church here Sunday. The 11 o clock morning service and 8 o clock evening service will feature his two messages. A large crowd is expected and the public is invited. Dr Carl W Minor is away on vacation.
Atlanta officials say coal stocks are being built up to July 1 to sustain city operations for several months. Grady Hospital and public schools already have enough to last through year end, with fuel en route for other departments for about nine months. The city plans automotive liaison with Savannah and Brunswick in case of transportation delays.
Four Republican Army men were killed and several wounded at Cushenall County Antrim when they ambushed a party of military and Ulster Special Constables. Crown forces suffered no casualties.
The house began debate on the senate amendment to the army bill appropriating 7500000 for Muscle Shoals work. Representative Anthony moved to take up the measure in Washington on June 24.
