Representative G. W. Riley announces he will not seek a second term in the Georgia lower house and leaves for the legislature next Tuesday. He opposes an income tax, supports highway bonds with voter approval, backs ending county official fees, and invites constituents’ letters and calls while serving.
Washington June 22 The president told the Philippines parliamentary commission he could not yet urge Congress to support independence for the Philippines.

Atlanta June 22. Twelve southern men voted to hang Mrs. Cora Vinson for killing her husband Dr. W. D. Vinson in Atlanta. The jury rejected mercy and set July 28 for the execution. The Americus Athletic Club led by Alex Thomas has secured the old Y M C A gymnasium and plans a June 26 formal opening. Cracker Anderson will direct operations with classes in boxing wrestling and physical training. Dues are six dollars monthly with initiation fees temporarily suspended.
On June 22 a 17 year old girl named Pauline Brown visits Atlanta's jail known as the Tower to plead for her mother Mrs. Cora Vinson who is condemned to be hanged on July 28 for the murder of Dr. W. D. Vinson. Pauline believes her mother acted to defend herself and her family.
Cincinnati June 22 The American Federation of Labor adopted a program centered on four constitutional amendments and repeal of the Sherman anti trust law to curb the courts amid labor adverse decisions. Officers to be elected tomorrow morning.
Washington reports May cotton spinning activity rose modestly from April with 32,502,674 spindles operated versus about 31,000,000 in April per the census bureau. The text then shifts to an athletic club promotion praising discipline, with references to Cracker Anderson as physical director and an emphasis on moral and physical improvement.
In Washington on June 22 Senator Heflin labeled Senator Glass a liar after Glass called Heflin’s statement false. The Senate was adjourned briefly as Senator Thomas E. Watson of Georgia ordered members to take their seats under Senate rules.

North of Kiangsi province 10,000 to 15,000 troops mutinied at Kianfu, burning cities and killing residents. Armistice signed at Chinawangtao after talks begun on a British ship.
At noon the new playground pool near the community house was nearly full and ready for opening. The pool, 2 to 9 feet deep, features white walls and clear water with extensive private dressing rooms for women on the second floor and separate rooms for boys and men nearby. John Shiver supplied abundant hooks and nails for garments. Bondholders can swap bonds for season tickets. others may buy bonds at the Playground to obtain tickets. Single admission is 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children. A high diving tower, slide, and diving board are installed, and the pool will be fenced with ticket-only entry. It opens today 3 pm to 10 pm, then daily 5:30 am to noon and 2 pm to 10 pm, except Sundays. Bathing suits and towels rules apply.
London reports Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson was shot outside his residence in ton Square. He had spoken at Liverpool Street earlier for a war memorial unveiling and had recently become military adviser to the Ulster government. Three shots fatally struck him as assailants opened fire on his car. two policemen were wounded, and the two attackers were captured. Sinn Fein is blamed by many in the capital for the assassination.
Washington report says banking executives from New York Philadelphia New Orleans and Jacksonville were subpoenaed to testify before a special war frauds grand jury. They must produce records of transactions involving J L Phillips chairman of the Georgia state Republican committee charged with conspiracy to defraud the government. Phillips bail is 25009.
George C. Dill prominent Cordele resident died at 10 30 p m Wednesday after a three hour illness He was 60 and father of Mrs Denver L Todd of this city Mrs Todd and her husband left for Cordele as funeral arrangements are not yet set The death was noted as a loss to many across the country.
With the pastor absent, Dr Garl W Minor, the midweek prayer meeting at First Baptist Church will be at 7 45 this evening and the Senior B Y P U will direct an instructive program for members and attendees.
A noon check by the Associated Press lists 26 known dead with over 30 feared in clashes between striking miners and Southern Illinois Coal Company workers near Hearin. Bodies are spread over 15 miles and hang from trees as the Strip mine is fired. A freight train is burning and miners loot food cars.
In Herrin Illinois on June 22 striking union miners besieged a surface mine six miles east of town where about 100 non union workers were gathered. Explosions and gunfire pierced the night as casualties mounted with reports of 14 or 15 bodies in the pit. Union miner Jordon Henderson was killed, and others injured including Joe Pitchovic and James Morris. Officials of the Southern Illinois Coal company reportedly ordered the mines closed and non union workers to leave, with Sheriff Thaxton nearby but not requesting aid.
Two companies of Illinois state militia were ordered to mobilize for possible service after word reached Major Robert W. Davis last night of a reported fight near Herrin. The request comes as authorities assess local violence and potential threats to public safety.
June 22 Liverpool market opened generally steady with 20 to 24 points decline. Quotations show Jullys at 15.74 with 15,000 bales sold. Futures for July, October, and December moved from previous close. open and close figures listed, including a notable closing around 12.13 to 13.26 ranges.
