Destruction by Fire Threatens Americus Block
Fire swept through the W F Milne drug store basement in the post office building Sunday night. Mims drug store and the Allen House suffered heavy damage as flames spread through the basement and to adjoining offices. Firefighters and volunteers battled the blaze for hours, saving the post office and upper floors. losses estimated around 10000 with Mims stock valued at 8000 and insurance on hand. The origin remains unknown. Public notices and peace proceedings followed in court with several defendants fined for a street altercation.
