White control of GOP in the South concentrates power in 1920s
Washington reports that the Republican National Committee backed a plan reducing Southern district representation to what yields a white ruled convention. The move shifts poles from black and tan to lily white factions, aiming to unify the party under exclusive white leadership and reshape turnout for 1924. It details state by state delegate changes, noting Georgia and Tennessee shifts and overall southern delegate losses and gains. The action follows Henry Lincoln Johnson's challenge and signals intent to build a white controlled GOP across the South.
