Dawson Ga June 8 Special. A lively Fourth of July celebration drew nearly 1,000 visitors from Columbus with excursions on Central and the Sam rail lines offering 50 cent round trips. Over 2,000 attended Leeton park by mid afternoon, flags and sunshine, ball game Columbus vs Americus ending 11 to 10, trains returning late but well handled. The article also notes sunflowers blooming, dry weather relief, and local political notes from Atlanta.
The Savannah News reports Americus secured the colored firemen's annual tournament set for July 27 after Athens declined due to water troubles. Macon attempted to raise funds but fell short, with Americus offering 700 to host. If 600 more had been gathered, Macon could have drawn 15,000 to 20,000 visitors with significant merchant impact. Central and Georgia Southern competed to attract the crowd. decision pending, with at least 2,000 expected to travel from Macon.
