Assembly Not Ready to Chop Costs This Year

Times-Recorder Bureau Atlanta July 25 reports Governor Hardwick faces a tough session as the house committee signals no drastic cuts this summer. Last year’s appropriations topped eight million dollars, with less than two million paid. The assembly grapples with reform bills and delays, leaving much business for later in the session.

Ellaville quarterly meeting and reunion at Hopewell

Ellaville circuit held its July quarterly meeting at Hopewell church with large attendance. Dr Lovett of Dawson preached at 11 o clock, then a conference and dinner followed. Four girls joined church after a children’s service led by Rev M Ketchum. Four preachers contributed to the success, including W C Lovett, W R Ketchum, Allan Wall and L Jordan. A family reunion barbecue the next day drew many guests under trees with ample orchard treats and desserts.

R S Olver and Dolph Oliver planned a Dawson visit for a barbecue at Magnolia Springs Monday night as the re organized barbecue club resumes events. Mary Clark visits Christine Spann near Parrott. various residents hosted relatives from Birmingham Belleaire and Arcadia. A Plains business fish fry at Spann mill drew guests including Mrs Jennings and Mrs Brittain while Eleanor Chambliss hosted a picture party for visiting friends. Youths enjoyed a Magnolia Springs barbecue. Thad Jones and house guests shared informal gatherings. Matron’s club hosted at Mrs Binion McGarrah’s, with guests from Birmingham and Milledgeville joining in.

Big two county barbecue day set in Richland

Richland July 23 Citizens of Stewart and Webster counties plan an August 11 barbecue with Georgia leaders as speakers. Committees organized hogs and cattle to be provided as the Richland Band plays.
