Memorial 10 Logan Monument Unveiled in Chicago
The John A Logan monument in Lake Front Park Chicago was dedicated with pomp July 22. The 5 year old John Logan III pulled the veil as crowds packed Michigan Avenue for a grand ceremony with Govs Yauner Scofield Mount Hulcomb and War Secretary Alger in attendance. The Logan statue by St Gauden is the largest equestrian statue in America, 24 feet tall on a brick crypt foundation, 14 200 pounds, depicting Logan rallying federal troops after McPherson's death. The parade featured 25 000 regulars and 20 ex Confederates with 7 000 Illinois National Guard and 200 ships gathered offshore.
