Chicago July 22 preparations continued for a Wednesday sanity hearing of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb. No jury. only legal issues to be decided. Jacobs Franks, father of the 13 year old victim, will testify as the state presents its case before Chief Justice John R. Caverly.

Sheriff Hudson guarded the prisoners as an enraged crowd grew after a witness and the slain girl’s father identified the suspects. A neighbor died of excitement.
Sheriff Hoffman said Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, who pleaded guilty to the murder of Robert Franks Jr., are under special guards to prevent possible self harm as death penalty looms. Extra guards will watch cells day and night.

Newfort July 22 Coastwise liner Boston towed in after collision with oil tanker Swift Arrow in fog. Most of her 600 to 900 passengers were aboard the Fall River liner Priscilla en route to New York. Unconfirmed reports say four passengers were killed.
The Steamship Boston bound from Boston to New York was rammed in heavy fog off Point Judith last night. Wireless reports at 5:15 this morning stated several lifeboats crowded with passengers were missing.
Newport July 22 The first injured passenger brought ashore from the Steamer Boston was UC Copeland of Brookline Massachusetts He was landed by the coast guard cutter Acushnet and taken to a hospital with a fractured left leg a fractured shoulder and internal injuries Officers of the Acushnet reported seeing two bodies in the wreckage and heard that one man jumped overboard and was drowned after his wife was killed in a collision with the Swift Arrow

Los Angeles July 22 Jack Dempsey world heavyweight champion and three other persons were severely injured when Dempsey's car skidded off the road two miles north of San Juan Capistrano near San Diego and overturned. Injured beside Dempsey were Teddy Hayes his trainer Mrs Teddy Hayes actress Florence Lee Dempsey leading woman and Jack Dean the chauffeur as the party of motion picture actors was en route to Pine Hills for a location shoot.
With Rev John M Cutler away on vacation the Board of Stewards arranged a two week schedule of services. Rev W H Budd and Prof Leon P Smith of Macon will lead on Sundays. Regular prayer meetings and classes are listed with dates July 3 27 30 August 3 6 10 and 13. A fisherman says the largest bass weighed 18 pounds.
A lightning bolt partly wrecked the United Traction Company's transformer station at Watervliet, delaying morning rush hour. Albany Troy Watervliet Cohoes and Rensselaer stations were tied up for more than three hours, forcing thousands to be late for work. The tieup disrupted transit as commuters faced lengthy delays during the morning peak.

In Woodbury New Jersey on July 22 Charles Albertson a village boy was hospitalized with a slow chance of recovery after stabbing his 20 year old sweetheart Florence Smith in front of her home killing her instantly and then attempting suicide. Police have not learned the motive for the act.
Athens Ga July 22 Gus Geechie Whaley and Phrgvsi Mobley two Athens negro auto mechanics or sub men around local garages are being held in Virginia for the theft of a Ford automobile from the H L Gofst Seed Company. Chief Beusse has been notified. requisition papers requested from the Governor. Huff bailiff and Cofet will depart Athens to bring the car and the two men back when requisition is granted.
