The Sumter county board of education delays meeting as grand jury findings on Ginn & Co books prompt talk of action. Retiring member Mr Z F Markett plans to press the issue Tuesday, challenging examinations and calling for a response to the recommendations. George Shiras named for the U S Supreme Court vacancy. Hawkes urged to run. delegates return from Friendship Baptist Association meeting. social and political notes fill the page.
Homestead, Pa July 21. A large Sumter County Democratic Club plans a welcome for Mr Crisp returning as Speaker. A brass band barbecue and speeches are planned with lists to enroll members by tomorrow night. Local names: Bolton Bros Council McGarrah Arthur Rylander Lee Council J. W. Sheffield Co. Alliance warehouse.
Oglethorpe challenged to play here next Monday with Americus and Albany arranging a big game against Macon. Albany plans a strong pitching duel with Schmidt likely to start for the visitors and a crack professional look for the home squad. Local citizens support the event as a first rate ball show drawing many to travel from Americus and beyond.
A July 15 notice lists several promotions within the transportation department including W P Levis moving away from Atlanta, B A Chaplin succeeding as chief clerk, and H S McCleskey named passenger agent.
