Berlin reports a massive food shortage panic followed by a price crash as illicit traders released hidden stocks to the market before competing supplies could enter Germany. The surge in supply comes as the blockade ends, reshaping local markets and consumer access.
Washington July 16 The Federal Electric Railway commission heard witnesses on the chaotic street railway situation. Col Joseph Alexander of Cleveland testified wage increases during the war rose near 100 percent and no mechanism existed to recover the extra costs, affecting electric railway securities and finance.
The Brotherhood of Railroad Signal Men meeting in Kansas City demands wage and classification improvements and urges a quick agreement with railroad management. If no reply comes before convention end, a strike vote will be proposed.
