Dayton July 15 Judge Jno T Raulston denied the defense motion to quash the Scopes indictment. He ruled the Tennessee evolution act constitutional and addressed contentions about the caption body discrepancy and the teachers religious rights. The decision requires Scopes to plead further and analyzes limits on worship and school purposes.
New York magistrate Farrell's traffic court faced a scare when a loud report sent attendants and spectators scrambling for safety. Bomb squad found no device as later reports blamed an accidental revolver discharge by a policeman for the explosion.

Atlanta July 15 the house temperance committee voted to recommend a bill to prohibit dancing on Sundays. Introduced by Representative Peacock of Laurens the measure passed unanimously. The proposal arose from Tybee Island dances this summer and faces political resistance as county legislators call it a municipal issue not state business. Also on July 15 the senate confirmed Stanley S Bennett as highway commissioner succeeding himself and prepared to consider Governor Bennett’s nomination for the same post. A house resolution by Daniel of Toupee called for a lobbying investigation.
J R Bell former deputy sheriff of Wilkinson county was killed at Pynetree Paper Mills Gordon when a seven hundred pound bale of paper crushed him Tuesday at work.
Virgil Sharpe 43 of Wichita is held for investigation after police say Tex Mason of Phoenix offered 4000 to kill three people near Decatur Illinois. Mason was to join Sharpe in an automobile arrested Tuesday as they prepared to travel to Illinois.
Quitman reports say two tobacco barns burned in Brooks County in recent days. The W. H. Cooper barn and the Nelson barn were total losses, both full of tobacco.

Berlin reports Eugene Asen a famed czar era spy was revealed posthumously by Arthur Kneupffer in the Berliner Tageblatt. Asen, later known as Kerl Neumayer, died in Berlin in 1918 after a career of disguise and espionage spanning Europe.
