Senate votes to require Bible reading in public schools

Atlanta July 14 After a long debate the Senate passed the Fleming and Bodd bill requiring Bible be read in all public schools. The vote was 30 to 20. Consideration of Senator John H. Jones' Australian ballot measure for Georgia was taken up. In the House Representative Beck haro's bill to align state laws with federal legislation sparked fiery debate and was tabled. Several minor bills were also discussed.

Storm devastates Plains area with widespread damage

In Plains and surrounding Webster County areas a severe storm caused extensive destruction. A warehouse and many homes suffered roof and wall damage, trees and debris were scattered, livestock were injured, and power lines toppled. Local residents reported near biblical wind with property losses and delayed travel as a result.
