Kenneth Eyland, a broker with the New York Consolidated Exchange, died by suicide at his sister's Orange New Jersey home. Miss Serna Eyland told police he had been despondent over business troubles. two children were asleep in the house at the time.
Five miners were killed and 35 injured in an ore mine accident at Sloss Sheffield near Bessemer Alabama when a train of trip cars parted from a broken coupling as shifts changed. All the dead are Negro.
Atlanta July 12 The Georgia House voted to disagree with a committee report and push three measures repealing the tax equalization act onto the calendar for early consideration. A resolution by Rep McCrory requests an agricultural department gasoline inspection report, staffing details, duties, and costs, and proposes cheaper inspection methods.
Atlanta July 12 A Black man named Jack Smiley who was sentenced last November in Bible Superior court to death for the murder of A L Allgood a Macon street car conductor was today granted a new trial by the Georgia Supreme Court.
Funeral services were held for Lena Fears Dorman, 15 months old, at 3:30 in Brooklyn Heights with Rev Carl W. Minor officiating. Interment followed at New Point Cemetery as mourners shared sorrow and sympathy for Mr. and Mrs. Dorman.
Mrs W M Cannon, while picking beans Monday at her Plains area home, was bitten by an insect or snake. Her ankle swelled badly and Dr F L Gate attends her. Condition not regarded as serious.
People visiting Morven report local dairy farmers are succeeding with sour cream production. Many farmers bought cows for this purpose and are reliably said to be making money from the venture.
Mell Robinson, an African American man, is being held in Fulton county jail under a warrant charging him with the murder of former Deputy Sheriff Victor Dowis of Gwinnett county. The case involves the Dowis killing and was reported from Atlanta on July 12.
Washington July 12. Railroads were ordered by the Interstate Commerce Commission to reduce rates by 5 to 7 percent on hogs grown in the southeastern states and sent to packing plants in and around Fort Worth Texas. The ruling affects shipments from Georgia and nearby territories to Texas facilities.

Valdosta July 12 J D Evans who ran the government melon market bureau at the Valdes hotel during the melon season was transferred to Macon today. Bulletins will be issued from Macon through the middle Georgia shipping season. The local season was brief due to a crop shortage but the middle state crop is expected to yield better.
A diminutive Montana cow town, Shelby, 100 miles north of Great Falls, faced ruin after the 15 round July 4 heavyweight title bout Dempsey vs Gibbons. Officials note losses around $76,000 locally, while Dempsey and promoter Jack Kearns gained about $240,000. Shelby had promised $310,000.

Morven in Brooks county is completing a municipal water plant with a steel tall tower and tank on top. A well-drilling machine works nearby while a pumping station awaits service. Several new buildings rise, including a brick store, signaling growth.

Mrs G A Turpin escaped serious injury when her car collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Jack Adkins at the Taylor Lee streets intersection. The Turpin car suffered a smashed left wheel and fender while Mrs Turpin received a gash above the eye and bruises. She was treated by Dr Emmett Anderson and later rested easily with progress reported at 2 pm.
