Atlanta July 11. The senate highway committee reported recommending a bill by Senator Keith to regulate motor vehicle use on public streets and highways and to provide penalties for violations, marking a key step toward statewide traffic rules.

Mrs Davis attends Church of St John Lattingtown Locust Valley with Rev Dr Charles H Hinton. Dr Hinton congratulates Davis on nomination. Dawes attends First Congregational Evanston. Coolidge joined the First Congregational Church in Washington last October as the first Congregationalist president. Harding was the first Baptist president. Presidents by church: Presbyterian Jackson Polk Buchanan Lincoln Harrison Wilson. Lincoln regularly attended New York Avenue Presbyterian. Episcopal presidents include Washington Madison Monroe Harrison Tyler Taylor Pierce Arthur. Unitarians Adams Adams Quincy Taft. Methodists Johnson Grant Hayes McKinley. Van Buren and Roosevelt were Dutch Reformed. Garfield Methodist Disciples of Christ. Jefferson Liberal.

Progressives say the Davis Democratic nomination marks a clear choice between Wall Street and Senator La Follette. William H. Johnston, head of the Progressive group, calls the New York deadlock resolved as McAdoo is out and Davis chosen. La Follette remains mum on the selection but is reportedly relieved by it.
In the capital the nomination of John W. Davis drew mixed but genuine enthusiasm among Democrats and LaFollette supporters. Davis’ career as a statesman was praised, while Progressives celebrated the Madison Square Garden action as a move to expose Wall Street influence and push toward a first party over a third.

Walter Muir of New York was hanged at Valley Field Quebec for the murder of Henri LaViolette last September. Muir claimed the shooting was accidental as a pistol fired into the floor during a bar room quarrel. Samuel Gompers head of the American Federation of Labor is gravely ill at the Hotel Shelburne Coney Island. He was brought from Lenox Hill hospital where he had been recuperating from a general breakdown. Two nurses attend him and Manhattan specialists were to examine him. He remains very weak and no one was allowed to see him for several days.
In San Francisco on July 11 authorities charged E. L. Schwartz and his wife with defrauding single men. Federal officials say the couple advertised to find mates for bachelors and sent pictures of movie actresses representing them as brides.

Pierce Zeigler aged 50 tenant of the Cline farm is dying at Washington County hospital after a moonshine liquor explosion burned him severely. He was found rolling in agony along the road as jars and glass fragments from the explosion were scattered nearby. The incident follows the prior murder of John Cline and his aged wife on the same farm last fall.
Montivideo reports from La Nacion say Brazilian rebels control Sao Paulo state, have deposed the government, and formed a revolutionary junta led by General Rondon. Parana uprising is also confirmed amid fighting, with food shortages and casualties in the streets. The governor’s fate and a possible transfer of government to Santos are among disputed details.
