Sheriff warns crisis may trigger militia aid from Governor Stone if outbreak repeats. twenty rioters previously arrested and jailed, no improvement noted.
B W Pyle, owner of a third of Greytown Nicaragua, committed suicide at Garfield Park sanitarium Chicago. Once rich in Central American fortunes, he spent 15 years hoping a U S canal through Nicaragua would be built, but blindness and despair led to one well directed shot. He moved to Chicago about a year ago for cataract treatment.
Tallahassee July 9 Governor Jennings announces civil appointments. I. B. Futch of Wester to be justice of the peace for District 6 Sumter County. Notaries public for the state at large W C Pryor Marietta J A Pietrial Perry W H Slaughter Luther John Sawyer Key West and S M Scruggs South Jacksonville J W Nettles Manatee to be supervisor of registration for Manatee County.

A severe thunderstorm in Offerman Georgia struck two work gangs from the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company as they stretched wires. Three white men and two Black men died. two others were injured. Names include M. C. Hawkins and A. H. Rhymer from Alexander North Carolina, and F. B. Linder. Foremen were W. M. Burke and W. H. Miller. The incident halted work on a Savannah to Jacksonville line.
A Georgia coaching party returning from a reception near Bainbridge overturned after the horse left the road. Warren Carr of Milledgeville and Mrs H Alien of Milledgeville Georgia were among the injured. The coach toppled into a 20 foot embankment, horses and vehicle rolling twice. All occupants were bruised but none fatally hurt, the coach top sheltering them.
A severe storm swept into Wareka Minnesota area Saturday evening, collapsing a large barn and killing Andrew Bishoa's family. Adam Bishoa Jr died from injuries, two sisters and a hired man were rescued after hours, eight horses and six cattle perished, others unharmed. Local neighbors aided in rescue as the storm caused widespread damage.
Captain J P Williams of Southwest Georgia returned from a trip over the Georgia Florida and Alabama rail line reporting crops in a distressed state. He cited severe drought and poor yields in corn and cotton across Miller Randolph Early Stewart Clay Terrell Sumter counties, with far poorer conditions from Mnton to Tennille. He warned yields may drop 40 percent and farmers are blue, though some districts show better prospects along the Central line to Tennille.
Shreveport dispatch reports a grim river tragedy with four bodies washing ashore along Red River near Milam and Travis streets after a boat capsize. Two more bodies were found near Twelve Mile Bayou mouth and further searching noted two others drowned near Pandora plantation.
Fire discovered at 3 am destroyed the King and Allen Lumber company plant and houses in Thomaston Georgia. The western side roof collapse endangered the Thomaston mills while Macon and depot remained threatened. Logs valued at 2000 to 2600 dollars and insured for 1000. William Valued dwelling 1200 dollars uninsured also perished.
Judge Griggs of Georgia announces campaign kickoff with slogan Fight Trusts. He travels to New York to confer with Ben T. Cable, plans tariff-nurtured trusts policy, and will open headquarters at once while coordinating with the Democratic Congressional Committee. He also mentions a Chicago trip to assist organization efforts.
The body of a white man, believed to be 8. R. Gayard of Los Angeles, was found at night under a tree near the city. A mirror on the tree was used to aim the shot to his head. A 44 bulldog revolver lay nearby. He had arrived in Helena from Iowa, staying at a hotel with clothing and marks of Angeles merchants. A Carrick Dramatic school paper in his hotel room suggests he was a former actor, about 60 years old.
In Chicago a boarding house resident, J J Gunderson of 248 Washington Boulevard, turned on gas to end his life early. His friend Hiram Stover, awakened by the odor, broke into Gunderson's room but a doorless explosion followed when gas ignited by a hall light. Stover was severely burned and Gunderson died at the scene.
Reported dispatches from Bogota say General De Tacap defeated Liberal forces at Carmen Panama, killing and wounding many. The victory reportedly silences the field and ends major clashes with Garcia Rivetra’s faction. Also noted: Rev. James E Dickey elected president of Emory College. a Portugal train wreck near Liston with many deaths and injuries.
