Higginbotham Convicted in Tabert Murder
Higginbotham is found guilty of second degree murder in the Florida convict camp case of Martin Tabert. A jury convicted after an hour and twenty minutes of deliberation and the judge set the sentence at the maximum twenty years. The indictment cites Tabert’s death from excessive whippings by Higginbotham, a whipping boss for Putnam Lumber Co.

Sawyer Case Again Up In City Court
The Sawyer case, long tried in Sumter county courts, returns to City Court of Americas today with Judge R L Greer presiding. W H Sawyer Sons Co sues Seaboard Air Line Railroad for damages after a fire at the Sawyer machine shops and plant, claiming negligence caused loss of blueprints and plans for patented machines. Previous hearings awarded damages, but the case was sent back for trial after a plea for a new trial.

James W. Law Dies of Hemorrhage in Americus
James W. Law died Saturday at 11 30 following a hemorrhage. Funeral services were held at Hebron Baptist church with Rev J E Quinn officiating. Interment in Hebron cemetery. Survived by widow two daughters five sons seven brothers four sisters and other relatives. He was 61, born in the 17th District and lived in Americus two years, widely known and esteemed.

Body of Roth Found in Basket on Lake Near Port Stanley
Fort Stanley Ontario July 9 The body of Lieut Roth pilot of the ill fated United States navy balloon was found in the basket fourteen miles southeast of here this morning. The basket was towed in by a fishing boat and the body placed in a fish house under police guard. No trace of Lieut Null his aide who accompanied Roth when the last balloon sailed from Indianapolis last Wednesday was found.
