Tragedy at rail crossing claims Carter and Duckworth lives
J Calvin Carter Sr 71 and Eugene Duckworth of Sumter County were killed when a Central of Georgia passenger train struck their Ford truck at a crossing two miles east of Americus. The crash occurred about 10am as they returned from Americus. Eugene Duckworth Jr., 15, survived after jumping from the truck. Coroner’s inquest ruled death by being run over. Both men were prominent local figures with Carter long active in education and civic affairs.

Warren on Forsyth street Sunday around 2 PM. Miss Monetta Cook, driver of the Ford, was unhurt. Witnesses subpoenaed for police court Friday morning to determine responsibility.
