In Chattanooga the second international Epworth League convention opens with bishops present except Bishop Vincent. About 15 000 visitors expected as 25 special trains arrive and more on the way. The opening includes a 1000 voice choir, welcome speeches, and a Lord's supper served to 10 609.
Amanita June 29 After a brief business session at the Kimball House the Georgia Press association begins its annual sightseeing tour. They depart by Southern railway for Washington with planned stops at Montreal and Quebec in Canada. Tacoma reports Representative W. T. L. Doolittle has left for Washington to push business. He plans next winter to secure coinage measures for chop dollars used in trade with Asia, especially Japan and China, following his oriental trip. Kansas crops news notes good rains in Kansas, aiding corn and other grains.
General A J Warner in Cleveland argues the Louisville convention failed to reflect Kentuckys will and predicts a Democratic split before the national convention. He foresees a unified silver platform and a candidate acceptable to southern silver Democrats western Republicans and populists who agree on coinage.
