Local shop advertises suspenders tacks paper goods and lamp items with prices like 5c and 10c. It promotes wide assortments from handkerchiefs and combs to hair curlers and needles and invites readers in the city and surrounding area to visit The Rocket in coming days.
Cable from Havana dated January 25 describes Jose Maceo's insurgent band east of the Contas river near Santiago de Cuba and the wounding of Rabi. Spanish forces close in on Gomez with Maceo's fate tied to a possible rescue while Garza is said to be killed and others wounded or captured in Matanzas and Salud fronts.
A Raymond and Whitcomb special California excursion train wrecked at Crooked Run Virginia on the Norfolk and Western line. No passengers injured but the head porter of a sleeping car was instantly killed. Officials cite a rock slide caused by a recent storm as the accident source. The five car train was en route to Mexico and California.
William T. Houston former New Orleans supreme court judge was attacked and robbed by two men on Lafayette Square in New York. He suffered a broken left leg and fractured ribs while $50 was taken. No police report was filed and suspects were not described.
The American liner St Paul struck a sand bar near Long Branch during dense fog while en route from Southampton to New York. Lifesaving crews aided the vessel and passengers were reassured. on board were prominent figures and $1,000,000 in gold for bond bids.

A fire engine in Cleveland plunged through an open drawbridge over the river at Bonscas street during a lumber district fire. Four firemen were aboard. two escaped with minor injuries while the others and the engine were swept into the water. The horses drowned and the engine wrecked near the bridge approaches. Night rain and dark conditions prevented warning lights from being seen. Driver William Bland and two others were injured but not fatally.
A fire started during a Roman Catholic fair at the Farley opera house near Dusugue Iowa, triggering panic among about 1000 villagers. No fatalities are reported. The incident disrupted the charity event and prompted emergency response.
Lord Leighton also known as Sir Frederick Leizton dies at age sixty six after a chill develops into a serious illness. He was a prominent figure in society and his death follows a rapid decline in health observed in January in London.
