Four Robbers Loot Hartford Bank With Dynamite Blast

Hartford Ky Jan 22 four men robbed the Hartford bank by prying a rear window then dynamiting the safe. They took gold silver stamps and about 2500 to 3500 dollars while missing 4000 in banknotes. A six story Adams block in Chattanooga was completely destroyed by fire with high winds aiding the blaze. Firemen saved the Catholic church parsonage and other property as families evacuated. Loss on the Adams building reached 40000 dollars with 15000 dollars insured. Foster Lessley Co. occupied the block incurring 8100 dollars in losses with 3000 dollars insured. The owner was J W Adams of Chattanooga.

Moonshiner Burned Attempting Jail Escape in Greenville

In Greenville South Carolina on January 2 a one story wooden house in Walhalla Oconee county burned while Alfred Bellew a 60 year old jailed for drunkenness was found burned to death in the ashes. Police believe he set the fire to escape. His head arms and legs were severed from his body. He was known as a moonshiner from Dark Corner.

The Welford post office in Greenville County South Carolina was entered Sunday night through a rear window. A mail pouch bound for Tucapan mills was secured and cut open but no money was taken.
