Three boys Roy Sims Henry Latham and Henry Latham of Macon were arrested in Ellaville after stealing a Buick en route to Columbus. The car stalled two miles from town and the boys hid in the woods until dark. They walked into Aville hungry and were taken into custody on suspicion. Police notified Macon authorities to hold them for transfer. Ages 12 14 and 16.
STON January 21 Major General urd Wood denied misquoting his remarks about the navy at an American Legion meeting. He stated he never called the navy a death trap and emphasized the need for a first class force with trained sailors rather than hastily built ships and untrained crews.
E Ware New Jersey January 21 Otto H New York banker urged abolition of the excess profits tax and a one cent sales tax on purchases over a dollar. He told the Association of Credit men that this reform could raise revenue to permit reduction of income tax on individuals earning under four thousand dollars yearly.
New Orleans January 21 On the basis of incomplete returns John Parker of New Orleans was nominated for governor at yesterday's primary over Col Frank Pubs of Monroe by an estimated majority between six and ten thousand His supporters claim the nomination is assured though results remain uncertain

DES MOINES JAN 21 A health center in Des Moines operates a human salvage department under the public welfare bureau. It aims to sort out physically and mentally weak individuals and restore them to better health through three services: medical clinic and dispensary, psychological care and review, and child conservation. A survey of school children is underway, with mental and physical measurements to identify subnormal conditions.
Mrs. Elizabeth Moore state illiteracy organizer urged Sumter Chamber of Commerce to back hiring an organizer to lead adult white literacy classes. Teachers will volunteer, chamber to press for a $300 county appropriation at the Feb. 2 board meeting. Paris January 21 German authorities will surrender 880 persons to allied military authorities for trial over crimes against the laws of warfare. Among those named 339 will be demanded by France. The list was finalized at a meeting with Baron Birkenhead Lord Chancellor of England Edouard Ignace French under secretary for military justice and allied representatives.
Secretary of War Baker endorsed the army reorganization bill after appearing before the full Senate committee. He called it the most statesmanlike attempt to reorganize the army ever made in any country.
Sumter county farmers are urged by George O. Marshall to plow deep and apply ample fertilizer before planting cotton to resist boll weevil. He advises limiting to ten acres per plow, using nitrate of soda only if additional fertilizer is used after chopping. About half the farmers lack labor, while the other half have ample help. Marshall also promotes large forage crops and anticipates high corn prices this fall.
