Church and Sunday School invitation urges readers to attend with open doors for strangers and visitors. The note encourages turning over a new leaf in the new year 1923 and bringing the family to Sunday school and church tomorrow.
H E Blankenship testified he identified a Ford truck bearing a Louisiana tag 74657 as the vehicle seen August 24 carrying Watt Daniel under the guard of armed men. He named two masked men as Oliver Skipwith and Smith Stevenson, with Skipwith described as the youngest son of Captain Skipwith of Morehouse parish.
Sunday school starts at 9:45 a. m. Full attendance urged. No morning or evening service due to the pastor’s illness. Dr. A. Lichtenstein will preach at the evening service on his work among the Jews.
Luther A Harrell leads Sunday school at 9 30 a m with men and women classes. Morning sermon on The Home Gods Plant for Character Building. Dr W C Lovett preaches at 11 a m. 6 p m devotional for Senior and Intermediate Leagues. 7 p m mid week service. Pastor starts Home sermons tomorrow at 11 6 oclock. Bastrop January 20 Attorney General Coco will travel to Baton Rouge this afternoon for a conference with Governor Parker. They will discuss the investigation of masked band activities and a report by Justice Department agents that a black hooded gang persists in Morehouse parish.
Hundreds of postmasters and postal employees from across Georgia gather in Atlanta for a postal conference at the Baptist Tabernacle. First Assistant Postmaster General John H. Bartlett and Third Assistant Postmaster General W Irving Glover will address the delegates on behalf of the postmaster general.
Atlanta January 20 Regular reports by a committee on essentials of English needed in Georgia schools will be made following a Georgia Association of English Teachers resolution. The convention ends this afternoon with a meeting to adopt a constitution and by laws.
The Lee Street arden church stewards hosted an oyster roast at Mr. and Mrs. Charles Culpepper home on Lee street. Oysters roasted in rear and basement living room with rose decorations and flowers. Sandwiches and coffee served. Guest list features Rev. and Mrs. Luther Harrell and many couples.
Miss Mary Emily Guir of Vienna is a weekend guest of Mrs. H B Mashburn at her home on Lee street.
Mrs Lott Warren of Atlanta is hosted by Mr and Mrs Frank Sheffield at their Taylor Street home presenting a social visit in this society item.
About seventy five Americus business and professional men attended the Chamber of Commerce banquet at the Windsor hotel. Sam R. Heys presided as toast master as plans were confirmed to keep the chamber a live civic feature. The secretary reported a bank balance of 860 dollars and no indebtedness as of February 1, a milestone in the organization’s history.
Screen comic Walter Hiers and his bride Eva McWilliams will arrive in Americus Sunday morning by Seaboard from Cordele. They will stay one day visiting relatives at South Lee street before continuing to Savannah and other Georgia points on honeymoon. They plan to return to Los Angeles after their visit.
Laurens Superior Court opens Monday with Judge J L Kent presiding. Eunice Blount, a young white man, is charged with killing a negra woman in late 1921, and John Coney faces a murder charge from last year. Civil cases appear first week while grand jurors handle criminal matters in the second week. Community cooperation is urged to improve neighborhoods.
Morris Rees of Pemberville Ohio a junior at Emory University was killed early today when a motor car struck a telegraph pole while he rode on the running board. He was on his way back to campus after a dance.
Worth County commissioners report 1922 expenditures totaling 107 928.67. Key items include chain gang 34 037.33, city court 4 368.10, ordinary’s court 147.86, superior court 9 719.80, general fund 34 478.36, public buildings 2 926.77, roads and bridges 22 250.45. Daily feeding cost for convicts and guards averaged 32 cents, sheriff feeding 60 cents, turnkeys 60 cents, clothing 55.16 per year, 15 cents daily, making 47 cents daily for feeding and clothing, plus 24 cents daily per guard for a total of 71 cents per convict per day.
Wallace Reid actor known as Wally Reid dies in Hollywood. He will lie in state at First Congregational church then receive joint Episcopal and Elks funeral services. Cremation to follow at Glendale cemetery. Messages of condolence flood the widow.
Washington Jan 20 President Harding has recovered from the grip and it is hoped he may be at his desk again Monday. The president spent most of today in his room.
Belfast Jan 20 Four men were executed today at Tralee jail in the county of Kerry for possessing arms and ammunition. The Associated Press reports the inmates were put to death after trials held in the jail's court. Officials did not reveal names or exact charges beyond possession of arms.
Dr A Liechtenstein, general secretary of the Hebrew Christian Alliance of America, will preach Sunday at 11 am in Central Baptist church on The Kingdom of Jesus Among Israel. At 8:30 pm he will speak in First Baptist church wearing ancient garments similar to those at the Passover. At 7:30 pm he will address the Presbyterian church on My 40 Years Work Among the Jews of America and Europe. He has delivered messages across the country over 40 years in ministry to his people.

In a night of strong play on Aggie indoor court, the Aggies defeated Leesburg 27 to 11 and New Era 25 to 12. Both visiting teams showcased skill while Aggie players claimed advantage on a smooth court amid enthusiastic fans.

John P. Parker former Ouachita parish sheriff died at a Monroe sanitarium after being shot on the Bastrop road by Carey Calhoun. Officials say the shooting remains a mystery with no witnesses and late reporting. Calhoun was arrested at 3.
