An ad for The Haberdashery touts essential men’s fixings and shirts, promising value and durability. It emphasizes sturdy Manhattan Shirts, affordable pricing, and the idea that proper attire improves attitude and prospects.
A committee presents a detailed plan to reorganize the Georgia Central Railroad and Banking Company and its allied lines. The Mercantile Trust Company would hold securities deposits and issue certificates. a new company with $50 million capital would issue $40 million of four percent bonds and preferred and common stock. The plan aims to preserve the system, reduce fixed charges, and secure dividends, with deposits and certificates to be handled through Mercantile Trust and Southern Bank of Georgia.
The Columbia Alabama cotton factory, opened July last year, paid a 5 percent dividend on its $60,000 capital and nearly 33 percent net earnings in six months after reinvesting in new machinery. It employs forty to fifty skilled workers and is expanding capacity to meet strong demand for yarns and twine. Local leader Mr T L Blackwell cites success as proof a similar plant could thrive in Americas with expert help from Major A Randall.
