A new stylish store invites customers to visit at the Lamar Street and Cotton Avenue corner. The notice says shoppers will be welcomed anytime and shown all offerings.
The council meeting grew stormy over the mayor pro tem election. Mayor Cutts withdrew from the chamber as Aldermen Burt and Bivins contended, urging immediate ballots while absentees could not vote. Burt won three votes to one for Bivins, with Cutts abstaining.
The obituary recounts the death of Mrs Julia Kendrick Wheatley at her Americus home on Sunday morning at 7. She was born in Fort Valley in 1846, married Thornton Wheatley in 1864, and lived a life of faith, charity, and church work. The funeral was held at the Baptist church with Dr Campbell speaking, and she is laid to rest at Oak Grove cemetery. Pallbearers listed include J. Eldridge, S. Hawkins, A. Harrold, J. Sheffield, W. Dudley, G. Stapleton, J. Shaw, and M. Strange.
