Meridian Miss January 3 A cyclone struck Causeyville four miles south of Meridian last night injuring several Black residents and causing heavy property damage. Numerous families were left homeless.
Ellaville Jan 3 The Bank of Ellaville held its annual stockholders meeting and the directors declared a dividend of 12 percent. Officers re-elected include J H Stevens president H F Dixon cashier Albert Richardson assistant cashier C A Murray J R Jordan and T H Stevens directors. T H Stevens is the new director succeeding the late Tom A Collins who died while serving as a director of the bank.
In Muscogee Superior Court creditors led by J. B. Trufi M. M. Bowden Muscogee Bank and Merchants and Mechanics Bank seek $19,544 from the estate of the late Lucius H Humber. Judge Munroe issued an order barring asset removal as land in Sumter and Stewart counties is noted. Humber was reportedly shot at his Girard home and his widow Leila F Humber was later convicted in Russell circuit court of his murder.

County Agent Pat Ward urges Thomas county farmers to shift from cotton to hog raising as a main income source this year. Since a cooperative hog sale began on June 15, 2000, about 29,887 dollars have been earned from hog sales.
Attorney General Napier filed in Fulton county Superior court a petition to amend the January 1 injunction against Milner tobacco sales tax. The aim is to allow tax collections to be held in trust pending final adjudication. Hearing on the petition is set for tomorrow in Atlanta.

In Peoria Illinois on January 3 a massive dust explosion at the Corn Products Company plant in Pekin killed an estimated 25 to 35 workers and injured more than 100 as fire swept through. Frank Lichtweiss, 26, sang to trapped colleagues for nearly an hour before leaping from a third floor window to escape. About 250 workers were on site when the blast occurred. many wounded were rushed to Pekin and Peoria hospitals.
New York January 3 Bartholo mew B Coyne longtime New York lawyer confirms Thaw will seek freedom from the Philadelphia asylum where he is confined. Coyne also says Frederick Gump Jr of Kansas City will settle out of court the civil damages suit against Thaw and let criminal charges lapse. Philadelphia January An ex judge James Gay Gordon counsel for Mrs Mary Coplay Thaw says any attempt to have Thaw released from the hospital would be opposed.
The annual budget shows bonded and floating indebtedness totaling 372720 and an assessed city property value of 5569718. It lists 223000 in bonded debt with 1020.00 annual interest and 130000 in floating debt with 8700.00 interest. Total anticipated revenue for ordinary expenses is 92448. The report, prepared by Mayor J. E. Poole and the finance committee, notes racial breakouts of assessments.
The State College of Agriculture will distribute another carload of sodatol to farmers in the region. George C. Marshall announced the plan on Thursday, with Albany to handle distribution this year. W L McNeil a well known Pleasant Grove farmer was accidentally shot Wednesday at his home while cleaning a self cocking pistol. The bullet pierced the scalp above the left ear but doctors determined the wound was not serious. McNeil spoke by telephone with a reporter Thursday morning before rising.
