Thomasville February 23 Over twenty one thousand acres of water melons have been contracted for by the Southwest Georgia Watermelon Growers association. The yield from this acreage should run well over seven thousand cars. Over a thousand pounds of seed were treated here for anthracnose during the disease prevention squad visit.
Pawtucket Rhode Island February 23 under military guard the mills affected by the textile strike opened today without a disturbance. Comparatively few pickets were on duty and those on duty were obliged to keep moving.
Albany February 23 Gov Thomas W Hardwick opened the two day session of the Association of Georgia Fairs at the county courthouse He praised the Georgia fairs of 1921 calling them the best the state has ever had attributing the success to greater diversification on farms and saying fair associations provide a public service by promoting diversified and better farming statewide.
Sheriff and chief nab seven children, six girls and a boy, at the Central of Georgia coal yard as mothers admit sending them to gather coal. The mothers are warned and lectured, with a promise that future offenses will bring them to jail.
In Tifton many hogs are sold with about 45 carloads shipped in the past month. One railway line reports 30 carloads a month, while four or five carloads of cattle go weekly. Farmers, cleaning hogs from fields before planting, fed cheap corn to hogs. most hogs are shipped outside Georgia to Tennessee and Alabama for breeding, with some to Moultrie and Atlanta.

Swift & Co led with 1000, larger than last year, while many members pledged 300 each. Roger Miller of the Macon Chamber praised Moultrie’s organization as among the state’s best managed.

Cohen says he will carry out the assigned tasks as others request his help.
Liverpool market opened quiet with futures up. Fullys quoted at 10.70 and 10,000 bales sold as receipts total 8,470 with 7,397 American. Futures show Feb 10.24, Apr 10.28, Jun 10.28. first prices around 10.27 to 10.50 in various listings.
Mrs. N. C. Dresback, one of 224 women farmers in Oklahoma, runs a failing cotton plantation now transformed into a thriving farm with fruit, chickens, hogs, bees, and dairy. Her Berkshire swine herd is prize winning, and she sells thousands of chicks and manages sales. She stresses diversification over cotton.
A famed herd of 18 white faced Herefords described as the finest in Sumter county has been sold by John Sheffield near Americus to Mathews and Co. of Americus. The 13 steers and 5 heifers and calves were purchased for home slaughter. The cattle, stall fed on seeds, were noted as prime and fetching a premium over current market price.

Chicago Feb 23 The Railroad Labor Board announced wage cuts and a split trick plan effective March 1 eliminating overtime before the tenth hour and creating an eight to twelve hour spread. More than 175 railroads filed petitions seeking wage reductions while seven groups proposed raises, hearings set for March 6 covering most classes except five train service brotherhoods.
Arabi in Crisp county emerges as a leading dairy center for the Ashburn creamery. Hamilton presides as president with Harvard as vice president and M D Mikel as secretary treasurer. The dairymen meet biweekly at a member’s home, with G W Culver hosting Tuesday night’s event featuring talks on practical dairying issues. Their next meeting in April plans a noon gathering to inspect members’ herd and barns.
In Snow of old age, two aged sisters were laid to rest at Red Hill cemetery near here. Mrs. Mary Webb, 86, of Macon county, was buried Sunday, followed Tuesday by her devoted sister. Mrs. Webb was grandmother to local merchants and farmers, and leaves W. E. Webb, Sr. and C Webb, and daughter Mrs. Fannie Woodruff of Snow.
