Plains Ga February reports a social week with The Merry Widow Club hosted by Miss Ethel Carter featuring growing plant decorations, games, and a veil pin prize won by Miss Walker. A Valentine party for Master Ernest Timmerman entertained local children. Numerous regional visitors and residents are listed with short notes on travels and visits to and from Americus, Smithville, Friendship, Birmingham, Columbus, Cusseta, and nearby towns.
DeSoto Georgia February 17. Mr and Mrs James Hudson of Leesburg visiting their aunt Mrs Sallie Green. Mrs Eddie Davis of Americus returns home after week with aunt Mrs Geo Jones. Mr and Mrs Charles Malone at Cobb guests here. Mr and Mrs Irma Howard of Lamar spend Sunday with relatives. Mrs Louise Hollis Simmons of Chokee guest of Mrs Gee Bagley. Mrs Elizabeth Culver confined to bed with serious illness. Mrs Frank Wilson of Leslie guest here Saturday. Friends of Annie Wilson Stevenson glad she is convalescing after a week illness. Rev Ferrell and wife of Leslie spent Thursday pleasantly with friends. Mesdames Charles Wommack and Arthur Simmons of Chokee among visitors Thursday. Mr J D Delamar out again after severe cane of grip and fever. Mrs Martha Collins of Americas visiting her son William Collins.

Elton C Parker of Americas, with Burke and Thomas G Hudson, visit. Burke plans state farm purchase for a prison farm. locals call Sumter a garden spot.
Mrs. C. C. Butler of Montezuma spent several days at her parents' home in Andersonville. J. B. Johnson visited Americus on business. Rev. W. T. Moore from Macon preached at the local Baptist church both morning and evening. Jas. G. Feagin traveled to Americus for a business trip. Mr. and Mrs. B. O. Eastertin moved to a new country home nearby. Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Easterling and Attleson B. F. Jr. visited Americus Wednesday. Mrs. C. A. Slappey, formerly ill, remains at home.
A large circle of friends witnessed the wedding of Miss Marylu McTyier to Clarence A. Wright of Tifton at one o'clock in the afternoon at the bride’s parents home near Plains. Rev W W Arnold of McDonough officiated. A salad and dessert reception followed. The couple left at five for their home in Tifton. Out of town guests included Mrs Lola Davis and Miss Susie Chapman of Americus and Mr T Wright and Mr Thornton of Tifton.
Ellaville residents recall a Feb event with Mr Lon Walters hosting a 42 party for friends including Myrtice Strange Arthur Murray Lucy Baldwin Willis Hogg Lucile Lindsay and more. Mozele Scott and Holman of Athens were guests for a Tuesday reception hosted by Mrs Rogers Williams.
The Valentine Ball at Mrs. W. P. Thomas home drew a large crowd with lively music lasting until early morning. Guests included Marguerite Forth, Rosa Christie from Smithville, Georgia and Eunice Renew from Huntington, and many others from Bronwood Sumter and nearby towns. Activities featured a Valentine word contest won by Master Leon Jones and a luncheon after a party for Emma Wiggins pupils.
Letters from Mrs. Tressie Nelson of Nashville and others recount life improving results after using Peruna. Captain J M Burk of the state prison inspection board surveyed five large plan tations in Sumter county yesterday. The Huguenin plantation, two near DeSoto, part of Hooks place, and the Speer farm near the city were among those examined. Burk favored the lands and noted the convict farm near the city as well kept. The Prison Commission seeks four thousand acres in one block, and Sumter is poised to supply it.

Misses Elma Evans Winnie Hall of Oakfield spend weekend with Miss Lizale Evans. Miss Susie Lunsford visiting Americus guest of Winnie Belle and Jimmie Josey. Mr F Goodroe in Sparks on business. Miss Lacy Pipkin home after visit to Adams. Mr B F Johnson visits relatives in Buena Vista. Mrs E M McAfee in Plains guest of Miss Ethel Carter. Mr J M Bruner of Fort Deposit Ala visits Smithville. Mr KB Martin Jr of Leesburg on business. Mrs W T Simpson hosts a valentine party Friday evening with refreshments.
Washington February 17 The Benedictine friars of the United States propose a plan to ease urban crowding by purchasing a large estate in Texas to build an abbey and a new town named St An. They will lay out 150 farms within two miles of the town center and attract farmers from congested areas. The settlement will include schools clubs and social facilities with expansions as population grows.
Miss Augusta Cottlow will perform in Americus Monday evening at Annie May Bell's studio as part of a five concert series organized by Miss J. Local music lovers have begun reserving seats well in advance. Cottlow has collaborated with conductors Seidl Thomas Stock Gericke Damrow and others and with famed quartets and soloists including Sembrich. Her Worcester Festival ovation and status as a leading interpreter of Edward MacDowell are noted.
The Great Cosmopolitan Shows enjoyed favorable weather and busy crowds as Cyclone staged his double leap the gap trick from a seventy foot platform. He rode the incline then leaped gaps and landed successfully before continuing through Hampton Street. Night shows continued daily for the week. The Passion Play feature drew praise and ministers endorsement for a low price viewing.
The marriage of Miss Reba Irvin of Washington Georgia to Mr Cecil Gabbett was celebrated at the bride’s home in Washington with social interest in Americus where both are well known. Irvin, remembered in Americus as a former visitor and admired for beauty, and Gabbett has resided in Americus for months in 1892 connected with the S A at M Railway.
Macon February 16 Officers went to take 6 year old Maud Mason from her mother over alleged immoral conditions but found the child missing this afternoon. Ordinary Wiley had been asked to remove the child and place her in an institution. The mother defied officers.
