An Oglethorpe Echo reprints a county farmer who refused to sell corn to a merchant for speculative resale. He set a price allowing profit for himself while denying profiteering, urging fellow farmers to shun middlemen and protect fellow growers, consumer interests, and agricultural prosperity.
Col James M. Smith of Smithsonia Georgia, owning 1600 acres, shows South Atlantic success by farming for home use and surplus cotton. He grows oats, wheat, corn, hay, potatoes, and more, with 75 cows, 600 cattle, 176 hogs, and 60 fattening steers. He runs a private railroad, urges farmers to live within income, raise everything at home, and abandon credit.
A store reports Hood's Sarsaparilla famed for curing scrofula salt rheum and other blood diseases. A scrap book was stolen from the store with a liberal reward offered for its return by Cleaveland & Co.
