Sheriff Hicks Dies Sudden at Courthouse Meeting

Ethorpe February 4 Sheriff M Hicks aged 62 collapsed at the Macon county commissioners meeting in the courthouse. He had served about 16 years as sheriff and was well known across the county. Survived by wife and five children. Funeral set for 10 o clock Thursday morning at Montezuma.

Smallest Baby Still Found on Turner Farm Near Webster

A one gallon whiskey still hidden near a cabin on the Turner farm was found by J C Arrington constable and Sheri C M Christian. A raid uncovered beer and a small amount of liquor nearby. The discovery occurred west of M Plains in Webster County on Saturday.

Judge Littlejohn denied Walter W. Wilson a new trial after hearings on his life sentence for the murder of Joel Edge. Wilson's lawyers Shipp and Sheppard said they will appeal to the state Supreme Court. Special state counsel Hollis Fort opposed the rehearing.

Little flu in Sumter County

There is no influenza epidemic in Americus or Sumter county says Dr. B F Bond, health officer. Two cases in Americus and four outside in Cobbo comprise the first four days of February, with five total Sumter county cases in January all in Americus. Serum and care are available from Dr Bond and Lola Flenner, Red Cross nurse, at the post office building. Chicken pox and a measles case were also reported among city children.

Calls Time Ripe For Cotton Bank

Governor Hugh Dorsey told Butts county citizens that the Cotton Bank and Trust corporation is the only feasible plan to aid South cotton growers. Seaboard Commissary Robbed Of Clothing

The Seaboard shops commissary was burglarized Friday night, with goods stolen including several overall jackets seven shirts and four pairs of shoes. A monkey wrench lay at the door where the break in occurred. Police have no clue to the robbers.
