Gates Pa Feb 2 A blast at the Gates mine of the H C Frick Coal Co killed or entombed several miners. Nine bodies were recovered by noon from a mine entry one and a half miles from the shaft, as veteran workers raced to reach the remaining men, now believed all dead.

Dr. T. F. Abercrombie head of the state health department spoke at a Third District Aggie school educational conference in Americus. Other speakers included E A Pound M L Duggan Geo D Goddard and Rotary officials urging support for the health department mortality program and lamenting the high cost of ignorance and underfunding of Georgia education.
A shipment of purebred Sumter county Durves was sent to North Georgia for breeding through county agent Ger O. Marshall. The selection featured mainly mature boars from noted breeders, bringing solid prices and reflecting ongoing demand in the region.
