Os J. N. Troutman also known as J. Howard Hunter, who escaped Sumter county jail months ago, was arrested in Miami and returned to Sheriff Harvey. He alleged white prisoners aided the escape by digging through a wall but none followed. He traveled via Dawson on a freight train toward Florida, was jailed in a steel cell, and faces trial in the May term of Sumter Superior Court for stealing a car owned by John Council near Americus.

Former President Wilson in Critical Condition at Home

Washington February 1 Woodrow Wilson has taken a decided turn for worse, physician Dr Grayson said tonight. The former president, weakened by years of illness, showed alarming relapse signs after a brief improvement. Family and three physicians remain at his bedside as the crisis nears.

Macon Police Arrest Jester's Alleged Pal

Macon detectives claim to have foiled an alleged conspiracy to blow safes in Middle Georgia after the arrest of Jack Lynch a former convict. Dick Jester, described as Lynch's partner, was captured in Americus after escaping a Sumter County chaingang. A burglary at the Bibby County chaingang coincided with Lynch completing a ten year sentence and the theft of dynamite later eyed for other uses.

World cotton stock at 18 million bales as of Nov 30

Washington February 1. The Department of Commerce estimates the world stock of cotton to November 30 at 18,185,000 bales. The estimated world consumption for the four months ending November 30 was 6,310,000 bales.

Georgia Alabama Power to furnish Quitman hydro power

Quitman officials near a contract with Valdosta Lighting Co to provide hydroelectric power. The Georgia Alabama Power Company of Albany will manufacture the generating equipment and supply power, a system already in use in Albany Americus Cordele Tifton Sylvester and Valdosta.
