A short notice promotes remedies at Hudson's drugstore for colds and sneezing. It notes asthma may be harder to cure but promises relief, urging readers to stop coughing and coughing via the store’s products.
Early today a blaze gutted the Hotel Jefferson at East Fifteenth Street New York. Two residents died Elena Downing and Elizabeth Repurtiss. Many guests escaped aided by improvised platforms and brave rescues. extensive damage estimated at 700000.
In Savannah on January 30 Leon Roberts, the man who fatally shot Dr. Warren Dedge in Appling on December 22, was arrested. Dedge died after a quarrel with F M Roberts, Leon’s father. Dedge returned to the scene with his father, fights resumed, and Roberts intervened, fatally wounding Dedge. Roberts and his father were badly wounded. Dedge died and Roberts fled the area. Also surviving stories include a $50,000 suit against the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad filed by Joseph Shepard Jr. and wife for a 1900 crossing collision. A Florida clerk faces revenue stamp compliance issues for 3,000 bonds. A steamer Holland wreck at Nieuwwchwaterweg with 14 feared dead and 4 drowned. captain and six crew saved.
Twelve women from the Anthony WCTU armed with hammers and axes demolished four saloons before police arrival. Husbands protected their wives. Government losses are listed as 50 killed and 27 wounded, while rebels retreat toward Guiria. Reports of mutiny in Caracas and alleged Castro aid to rebels fuel tensions.

January 29 Charles court in Paterson N J heard sentences for murder in the second degree of Walter Moathater William Death and Alexander Campbell for the October 18 1900 killing of Jennie Bosschieter by chloroform administered with rape. Campbell and Death received thirty years hard labor while George Kerr who pleaded not guilty to rape faced fifteen years in prison.
