Americus considers gas and electric fixture plant

At Americas Board of Trade meeting a special committee was formed to explore locating a gas and electric fixture factory here. A Philadelphia firm eyed Americus, proposing a site and tax exemption for five years. The plan would cost about $30,000, start with 60–73 workers, and expand to 150, with a weekly payroll around $1,400 for 75 white workers. The committee aims to secure site, tax relief, and funding to cover taxes for five years to lure the project.
