Senator Heflin of Alabama claimed November consumption data show speculators control the market and depress prices. He argued the law of supply and demand warrants a middling price of 30 cents or more, noting the current 26 cent rate is unjust and unsustainable.
A group of Los Angeles men secured from the Mexican government a blanket concession of all government lands in the East Coast oil district. The deal, described as the largest oil transaction in Mexican history, covers about 11,000,000 acres adjoining Tampico and Tuxpan districts and is deemed highly significant globally.
Washington December 25 Prohibition Commissioner Haynes issued a Christmas message to friends of the eighteenth amendment praising enforcement success and urging resilience against propaganda that misrepresents the constitution. He warned against nationwide misrepresentation aiming to undermine enforcement.
The papal encyclical released today indicates a possible gathering of the entire Catholic Episcopacy in Rome during the next jubilee year. It would extend the Ecumenic Council of 1870, praising universal pacification while condemning divorce, modern dances, and immodest fashions.

Fort Valley citizens petitioned to compel the secretary of state to certify to the governor that the proposed constitutional amendment creating Peach county was ratified at the general election. The petition argued about excluding returns from about 60 counties that allegedly did not conform with the law.
Washington reports no cold weather in sight for Christmas period. Government forecaster notes frost in northern and central Florida but predicts higher temperatures across the South Atlantic and East Gulf states over the next two days.

Six men arriving from Las Vegas in a car with heavy suitcases are jailed in Santa Fe pending investigation into the robbery of a United States Federal Reserve Bank truck in Denver. State marshal officials received tips from Las Vegas and, after spotting the suspects during breakfast, Deputy Goutehey and Assistant Superintendent Dugan of the penitentiary took them into custody.
The Young Peoples Missionary society of First Methodist plans a Christmas program at the courthouse Sunday 7 to 8 pm. Pastor Rev John M Cutler will speak to the youth and congregation. John West Sheffield leads. Participants include Miss Rossie Andrews Miss Sara Oliver Dorothy English Rev John M Outler and others with musical numbers and a free will offering. Ushers and collectors named.
Senator Harris of Georgia urged in Washington today that the South be represented on the Supreme Court and on other semi judicial federal bodies including the Interstate Commerce Commission and the Federal Trade Commission.
Washington reports preliminary Bureau of Census figures showing 37,175,233 cotton spinning spindles in place in the United States on November 30, 1922. Of these, 34,664,630 were operated at some time during the month, compared with October’s 33,859,076 and earlier months.

Eight cars including Pullman sleepers and an engine left the rails near Lucamar Rocky Mount North Carolina as Atlantic Coast Line train hesakennes to New York diverted. Reporters said it was miraculous that no passengers were killed, with many escaping serious injuries.
Due to flu and pneumonia in the community, Carol services are halted this year. Miss Elia Volky and the music rectors announce that crowds will not gather. Schools will instead hold a 15 minute devotional with selected carols such as Silent Night and Joy to the World.

Neill Ray Jr suffered an eye injury after a Friday car crash on the Americus-Unadilla road. His Ford overturned when the radius rod loosened, a piece of flying debris struck him, and he was treated and bandaged in Vienna before returning home.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Avery who died after a long illness. Surviving are her son Tom Avery and adopted son Erwin Avery, both residents near Andersonville. Mrs. Avery was 94 and one of Sumter county’s oldest residents, living in the community her entire life.
