Americus Dentist Killed by Hinkles in Front of Office
Dr J J Worsham a leading Americus dentist shot by Drs J B and A B Hinkle in front of the Hinkles office on Jackson Street. Four shots from two pistols left him dead on the sidewalk as crowds gathered. The Hinkles were arrested and jailed amid cries for lynching, with conflicting statements about Albert Hinkle’s involvement. An inquest was held revealing mortal wounds to the heart and collar bone.
